Please tell me this is not true!!

Hi, i know this is going to sound crazy but my neighbor just told me something i'm sure is not true. I have a little dog who is just not acting like herself today. She is usually very hyper but today is very laid back, sleepy , wants to be held.I told my neighbor that i hoped she wasnt sick and then she had the nerve to say to be, "well, i hope she doesnt have a virus cause if she did your baby could catch it and die" She then told me her cousin was 8 month pregant and had a still born and they said the baby had caught a virus and the only one who had been feeling sick in their family was their dog! WTF
why do people feel they need to tell you stuff like this when you are huge, over due.
Also, i saw a midwife today to see if she would take me as a homebirth but she will not since I am 40 weeks and ready to go at anytime. I did see my MEd wife today who didn't mention induction!!!! Yeah.. she just said that maybe she would see me next week and maybe not! I hope i birth this baby befire next tuesday. I am stil only 2-3, i have been contracting since Sunday. I thought my water had broke this monrning(AGAIN) nope, thenshe said my cervix hadnt changes any the last 10 days. You wold think this contracting would do something!

Hmm... dog virus... does Parvo do something like that, Fifth's disease maybe? I remember something vague about dogs and sickness and pregnancy, but I really have no idea what Chances are your dog just ate something nasty though!

Today I found out I haven't dilated at all in 4 weeks of prelabor. Still at 1 cm, I know how you feel!

As for the dog... hmm... That sounds just a bit retarted to me. I worked with pets for 6 years and have had MANY of my own and have never heard of such a thing. That's a pretty general statement anyway, it would depend on the virus. You can't say that every and any virus a dog can get would kill a baby, and in utero at that! It just doesn't make sense to me. Your dog may be not feeling well, OTOH, maybe she just knows somethings going on with you. My cats knew when I got pg before I did, and they knew when I was in labor. She could just be clingy because she can feel a difference in the energy your body is putting out. New babies can be quite an adjustment for pets.

I would put my bet on your doggy knowing that you are going in labor. I have heard this and I am cerious if my dogs will know when I am ready to go. We plan on having them in the room (in their kennel) while I give birth. We are such AP pet parents and firmly believe that we are all apart of a pack. These dogs are really good, young but good dogs and they are cerious about babies, we have a friend that brings their 2 month old over all the time and they are so laid back when our dogs poke their noses at the baby and lick her face and hands. I think that if your dog was sick you would know better than anyone else. Like I said she/he probably knows whats about to happen...heck there are dogs out there that can smell cancer befoer any test will detect it. Dogs are amazing and they worship their owners. I would take this time you have left and really give attention to your dog, let hem/her know that s/he is still special to you.

Ah, neighbors, the veterinary and pregnancy experts!

I haven't run across any mention of dog-specific viruses in all the pregnancy reading I've done. If your dog is also eating and eliminating normally, I'd bank more on her being lethargic from heat or that she's sensing changes are in the works with your body. My cat gets super needy when I'm contracting or not feeling well. I do think animals know more than we give them credit for understanding.

Thanks everyone, she just had a bath and seems to be her old self again. I knew this chick was full of it( the nieghbor) she was the same one who told me that if my water broke i would have a "dry birth" and that would so bad. Why cant people keep their mouths shut.I am stressed out enough as it is. You would think people would realize this and jsut be encouraging instead of all the un wated advice and horror stories.
I am just so worn out from all these contractions. The are 4-5 minutes apart and have been going on for DAYS. but my cervix isnt budging. I just want to sleep all night and wake up and have my baby. I have talked to her all day saying, "we love you , we are ready to see your little face"

I'm surprised she didn't tell you not to lift your arms or the umbilical cord will strangle the baby too... some people are just so sadly misinformed. I knew a woman whose friend told her (with much alarm) that she couldn't go swimming because the baby would drown.

You know I'm right there with you. My arms are just aching for this baby. I'm soo incredibly exhausted and showing no progress as well. But, it won't be too much longer! Every day is one day closer.

Oh we are all feeling the same way now--so ready for these babies to come. I am not even officially "due" until the 25th so a friend of mine said, "well, int he worst case scenario, this will be over in a month!" OMG I cannot be pregnant another month. My personal prediction is the 17th so after than I will be VERY impatient.

This is so, so hard.

Viruses that pass from humans to animals and vice versa are so rare that they usually get a crapload of media attention (like bird flu). Honestly, even if that did happen to your neighbor's cousin, it would be a one-in-a-million-trillion-bajillion (to quote the nearest 5 year old). And that's if your dog is actually sick and not picking up on exhaustion/pre-labor vibes from you. IMO, it's not worth the stress.
