I know there are threads about nurselings biting in the breastfeeding forum, but I wanted some GD suggestions.... Dd has had her first bottom two teeth for a month now and just in the past five days or so has started nipping about two or three times a day when she nurses. I think she might be getting her top two teeth.
Her nipping is VERY painful for me and stresses me out. I am practically at my wits end trying to figure out what to do. I've tried unlatching her and setting her down as soon as she bites (I involuntarily scream a bit too...), but that just makes her really upset and I don't like making her cry. It doesn't seem to deter her from nipping again either. I'm not sure what else to try.
I also feel pretty terrible that I get so stressed about this... last night I gave her to dh to put to sleep which really didn't go very well at all, but at least I was able to calm down and be patient with her again after about ten minutes. So any suggestions for how to discourage biting would be welcome (biting in general too not just during nursing, though that's my main concern at the moment).
Thanks!
love and peace.

Those bites are scary! First- she is not trying to bite you. She's trying out new sensations with those funny new things in her mouth. Best way to deal with it is to watch for what she does just BEFORE she bites and head it off that way. If/when she does bite, pull her TOWARD you- it makes her open her mouth wider and let go.
