We've had five hospital births and one homebirth with a m/w. We'll be having another homebirth with the same m/w.

I will have an elecetive section.. Although...... I have been chewing on this alot. I am scared this go round. I had a difficult birth with Nic * my 3rd* failed 21hr labor that failed, my kids NEVER want too come out.. Well anyway, he was presenting arm firs, so off for Emergency section, then I bled out, needed 2 units of blood, then I got uterine infection. So I am really Scared, but then again... It is fast, and easy. My incision was from Belly button too pubic bone, not sure how my uterus was cut, depencing on that.. I may be able too try for VBAC.. I am going too discuss this on the 21st when I go.

I had my first via induction by a midwife in a hospital. I would love to have a midwife deliver this child, but I have been told that they do absolutely NO medical intervention, and I'm all about my epidural.
So I'm going to ask every single one of the OB's if they are willing to give me the type of delivery *I* want (where there isn't 4 tons of blue sterile cloth everywhere, where I can have my friends in the room and we can have a good time in between pushes, and hopefully I can be induced a little bit earlier this time, since they waited until 41 weeks and I had a 9-pounder. SIGH - keeping my fingers crossed that I find someone willing to work with me.

We'll be doing a homebirth for our first baby.
Lizzo, we're in the same boat, and the same state. Are you using a MW? We're going with Womanwise (they do PA, DE, MD area).

My first two were c/secs, and my last four have been healthy homebirth VBACs with a great group of midwives. We're praying for another healthy homebirth with the same group of midwives that attended all my other homebirths.

Well, this is a very complicated question for me to answer.
I've had two hospital births with midwives. The second one I was in the hospital for a total of just a few hours, an hour to get changed, get monitored once, and then to push, an hour to eat a pizza I ordered after the birth, and another hour to nap then I walked out.
This time, though, I'm in Korea. Korean drs and hospitals are very, very 1950s. The nursery takes your baby and you can see the baby twice a day through a glass wall. If you are nursing you can go on down there three times a day for ten minutes and they will "let" you hold your baby.
Then there are the crazy old wives tales that remain firmly within conventional medicine here. Like the need to have the mother overheated during labor, birth, and postpartum. They keep the rooms 90+ degrees. You cannot eat or drink during labor and afterward you are given only seaweed soup and rice to eat while you stay in the hospital for week.
Needless to say, I won't be going that route. So.
Homebirth in Korea. But where do I find a midwife willing to come out here? And where to I house her while we wait for the birth? And what are the laws regarding such a thing?
I'm overwhelmed by it at the moment and am preferring to hide my head in the sand for the duration of the first trimester.

That is a tough situation HeatherKae! I can't imagine. I hope that you find a mw that will be able to help you. If not you could always UC.

I'm moving to NJ soon where there don't seem to be any freestanding birth centers
, so probably hospital birth with MW and/or doula. Home would be nice but not really an option in a tiny apartment/big building...

We are planning a home water birth for this baby. Being a doula, I know all the best people and have known for years who would be at my birth if we ever have another one.
This will be my first homebirth though.
My first was the typical hospital disaster - when I was young and knew nothing. We had considered homebirth for my 2nd, but the town we lived in did not have a good hospital -and had no L&D unit at all - so I was afraid of going there if we needed an emergency transport. We planned on having her at a free standing birth center since they would transport to a better hospital if needed. At 30 weeks with my 2nd we realized that she had a kidney abnormality and would need a hospital birth. So she was induced in the hospital - with a mw - at 38 weeks. It was a natural induction with no drugs involved, and afterwards the ped who worked on her said that her not having any drugs during labor probably saved her from a very long NICU stay and a lot of other problems. She did have surgery shortly after her 1st birthday and is now completely fine.
With my 3rd I finally got that birth center water birth and it was absolutely incredible. I can't imagine ever giving birth in a hospital again - unless I had too. You can read her great birth story here
We have now moved to a bigger city with a bigger hospital so feel comfortable having a homebirth here. But will definitely rent a tub
My wonderful doula partner will be with me (although she doesn't know it yet!) and a wonderful homebirth mw who I have worked with many times in the past - and also only lives a mile away. Which is important when giving birth in February in MA!

HeatherKae - Wow, what a situation to deal with! Where are you located in Korea? I bet the more rural areas still have midwives. Do they have LaLeche League there - maybe you could get a referral? I hope you can find someone soon.

We are undecided about where to have this baby. My first was an unmedicated hospital birth, which was okay except the doctor was totally unsupportive. But, the nurse was fabulous! Our second baby was born at a free standing birth center and our third was a homebirth. Ideally, I'd like a homebirth again, but only if I can find someone to take my children while I am in labor. Even with a babysitter it was tough having them there last time.
I meet the local homebirth midwife on Sat. She is a CNM and takes our insurance - amazing! Next, I'll go visit the local free standing birth center and I might even check out the practice of CNMs that deliver at our nearest hospital. Then, I'll pick who I like best

LLL, I don't know. I"m from Chicago and my parents live about ten minutes from the HQ in Schaumburg. I'm going home for a visit so I will pop in and ask them what they know. If they know anything. Obviously, breastfeeding isn't a priority here (which is strange given the Korean penchant for heath foods and improving their children's chances of intelligence and education).
I forgot to add the one major monkey wrench in my plans. I was diagnosed with Interheptic Cholestasis of Pregnancy last time. Supposedly, it returns and gets worse with each subsequent pregnancy. If it does, I will probably wind up in a Korean hospital regardless, induced at 36 weeks and hating my lot.

We are planning our first homebirth with 2 midwives & 2 doulas along with some family & friends. Our first was a hospital birth with midwife...early water break with OP & ascynclical presentation & partially medicated labor after 36 hours of getting from 1 to 4 dilated...unmedicated birthing (pushing) though
No episotomy or tearing!!
