Is anyone taking Flax Seed Oil?

I heard that taking flax seed oil was really beneficial to the baby especially in the first trimester so I went out and got some for TJs. Is anyone else taking this or have they in the past?

I am taking it for slightly different reasons. I have eye issues that are drastically improved by flaxseed oil. I have also heard that it is great for pregnant women but haven't done my research yet.

I just found this on it too. I had preeclampsia last time and woulf have loved to know that vitamin E would have helped :. I think I may buy some of that as well, but my prenatal already has 100IU, so I don't know. I just want to have a really healthy pg this time around 'cause last time really sucked.

I eat flaxseed muffins almost daily. If anyone is interested, let me know and I'll post the recipe.

I just switched from my evening primrose oil/flax supplement to cod liver oil. I am considering getting some flax as well. I took it for my 3rd pregnancy

I would love the recipe Heather . Do you think it is good for toddlers too?

They're great for toddlers. Although, you know, the fiber will come out the other end. Just be prepared for clean up which can be ugly if you use cloth.

I make mine using liquid Splenda (I have blood sugar issues) so when I make the kids' I have to add some extra water. Just eye ball it. Maybe 3 T or so of water.

3 eggs
1/4 c oil (I use olive, but you could use any)
3/4 c of sugar (or the equivolent of whatever sweetener you prefer)
2 tbsp water (plus the extra if you are using a dry sweetener)
1 tbsp vanilla

1 1/4 c flaxseed (I grind mine in a coffee grinder -- ground flax can go rancid quickly so I wouldn't buy it at the store already ground)
1/2 tsp each baking soda and powder

2 tbsp cinnamon (or whatever flavors you want -- I do cocoa, or sometimes I do a banana nut combo or pumpkin and then reduce the amount of water, sometimes I make orange spice (using rind and a little extract). Even plain these are good.

Mix all the ingredients, the baking powder and soda added last. Spray the heck out of your muffin tins as these puppies stick. I use olive oil in a spray bottle. Cook them about a half hour at 350.

(I'm not a recipe using cook so if any of this didn't make sense, let me know. I do a lot by feel and touch and others sometimes have problems following my recipes as a result).

I'm from August DDC, but I take Udo's Choice oil. It's an organic non-animal source oil blend containg the correct ratio of omega 3, 6 and 9's. It contains flax seed oil.

I bought FSO from TJ's too but haven't taken it yet. Wish I would have bought the capsules. How should I take the liquid? I take Omega 3's in a capsule.

I know that you can have it on some vegetables, like steamed broccoli or on a salad. Maybe you could mix it with some juice? I looked for capsules but didn't see them there, I would have prefered those too.

I was taking it but stopped as I have heard that it can be harmful in pregnancy. So I am going to look for some krill oil or purified fish oil instead. Apparently there is a possibility of flaxseed oil acting as a hormone disrupter.

That's the same reason I stopped EPO. But, I will say that my midwife (last time) encouraged and supported my use of flax during my pregnancy. She said it was why my skin looked so young. Well, I was only 27 - lol!

Those muffins look tasty!

I took cod liver oil with #2 and am so far eating flax meal on something at least every day.

I have heard that doing that thing where you take flax seeds and soak them in water to get them gel-like isn't good during pregnancy because it has a laxative-like affect that is too intense during pregnancy.

I sprinkle flax seeds over my salad several times a week. You can also do it in yogurt, cereal, batter (pancake, etc).

Just to clarify, you need to grind the flax seeds before eating them to get any nutritional benefit. The hard shell will just go right through you if you don't.

Ummm... yeah, I do speak from experience. :

You can get flax meal pretty much everywhere now and I keep mine in the freezer (goes rancid fast). It's really easy to add to cookies, muffins, etc. It's a laxative too, so if early pg gives you "issues"... it can help with that! I am guessing it is unlikely to overdose on the oil when you're eating the meal...
