I have made a cd of the songs I want to play while I am in labor, these are the songs from our wedding

Van Morrison - Crazy Love ( which Jeremy walked down the aisle to and again when I walked down
Van Morrison - Into the Mystic ( my bridesmaids walked down to)

Alison Krause- Heart strings ( played when they walked my mom and Jeremy's mom down)

When You say nothing at all ( when the my little flower girls and ring barrer walked down) everytime I look atthe video of them entering the little chapel

I Don't know why ( after the bridal party were out and everyone else was leaving

Nora Jone- The Nearness of you ( sang) at our reception

These are songs
that are important to me, I listen to them all the time.

What songs are you playing during your labor, if any?

Kaitlin

I'm using George Winston Piano Solos, like I did during my first birth... ALTHOUGH, there was only about a 2 minute space of time between 2 pushing contractions that I was in any way aware that there was music playing at all! I think anything with words would distract me though. I've had this piano solo CD for the past 9 years, so its really familiar to me, which I find comforting. I was thinking of maybe also throwing in one of my progressive sleep CDs (also piano). I love piano.

I might put on the iPod - it ranges from Pearl Jam & Nickelback to Alabama & Tim McGraw to U2, Stevie Wonder, and James Taylor. I love variety! I'm not sure though ... the only reason I was thinking of putting on music is to give myself something to sing along with and think about at least in between contractions (which are finally here and getting stronger!).

Dh is making some CDs. All my faves. We have the Beatles, Velvet Underground, Modest Mouse, Neutral Milk Hotel, Beck, Of Montreal, Belle & Sebastian, Iron & Wine, Ugly Cassanova, David Bowie, the Cure...basically a bunch of emo and some old stuff. It's how we roll.

Those all sound so great. As a midwife, the only music that makes me nuts at a birth is Enya played on a loop. Now I like a little Enya now and again mixed well with lots of other kinds of music, but the same fr------ CD on a loop for 22 hours is enough to make me throw myself out the nearest 2 story window!!

I have a lot of Air on the iPod. Some Stereolab. Autour de Lucie. Sigur Ros. David Bowie. Basically, I'm going with my "long plane ride" standbys.

I have one specific cd that I used w/ dd. It's this indian music w/ just sounds. Flutes, running water, etc. It's very very peaceful and great to meditate to. With dd I didn't want to hear any music w/ actual singing. It got on my nerves. But I have lots of stuff I can listen to. I'll probably listen to mainly reggae though. Other than my 'indian' cd.

I'm taking a collection of CDs with one or two songs on each that I like. Having to think about stuff like that helps me with pain management. Then there are a few that I can just let play, like whalesong, a celtic cd and : Enya... I wouldn't play it on repeat though.

Mostly, they are for me to sing along with while I don't want to socialize, etc.
