Epidural risk come true, so sad for an old friend

Not sure if this is the place for this post, sorry if not.

I was told today of an old acquaintance who just had her 3rd DC and had an epidural and is now paralyzed from the neck down as a result of the epidural. Three children, one a newborn, and mama is unable to move. I am so saddened; this woman was vibrant and so athletic.

I am so thankful for my health and for the ability to have my babies at home, avoiding the risks of hospital birth. I am forever thankful that nothing permanent happened to me as a result of my spinal when DC#1 was born via emergency c-section. I know that when I was in hospital having my completely unmedicated VBAC with DC#2, the epidural was mighty enticing. I was SO uncomfortable due to them not allowing me to labor naturally, move around, etc., that I could completely relate to women who get epidurals.

Please keep her in your thoughts- maybe with enough vibes the universe will see fit to having her regain her health.

I'm sorry to hear this. This happened to an ex-neighbor of mine but everything did return back to normal after several weeks.

What terrible news! I am so sorry for her and her loved ones.

I had epidurals with my two oldest children and I can tell you that any risks were greatly minimised or brushed over. At that time I had no idea but I would not have given informed consent.

Wow - that's awful. I just read another post in birth and beyond about someone's old high school friend who just died from an epidural complication. Yikes! I hope the paralysis wears off.

My mom's next door neighbor had the same thing happen to her...thirty three years ago. They were pregnant at the same time. My mom used Lamaze and this woman went right for the spinal...and never walked again. It's such a sad ending to such an awesome beginning...
