I swear this kid is awake maybe 15-30 minutes TOTAL a day and she just sleeps the rest of the time. I end up waking her up for at least half of her feedings every 3 hours or else she won't wake up till about 4 hours and last night she slept though the night and woke me up at 6:30am to eat. She's back up to her birth weight so she is getting enough but when will she wake up and be that alert baby I see so many pic's of?

I feel the same way. This guy is hardly ever awake! Maybe an hour a day total and that's pushing it. He's usually half awake to feed and then right back to sleep.

Be happy that you could get your rest! When my dd was a newborn, she only slept 10-11 hrs a day. (same at 7.5 months) And it was broken up to where she never slept more than an hour at a time. I was exhausted!!! Your baby will wake up within the next few weeks and you will get lots of pictures. Im glad that you get to rest!

True, its good you can get your rest!
Remeber your new babe is also growing when she sleeps. My two kids always seem to spend a day nursing like a madwoman and then sleeping. no 3 hours apart here.

Yeah, my lazy baby girl sleeps lots too. She's so laid back... She regularly goes 4 hours between feedings. She's having PLENTY of wet/soiled diapers though and is gaining weight well so I'm not worried and the ped isn't either. We did have a little trouble at first getting her hydrated and had to get creative to keep her awake to finish any nursings at all. If I get worried I take her outside in the sun for about 5 minutes and bring her back inside... I guess the change from the brightness of outside to the relative dimness of the living room makes it more comfortable for her to open her eyes and we get some good awake time then. But that's taken 2 1/2 weeks to figure out. lol

My babe goes about 2-3 hours between nursings. Maybe once or twice he's gone 4 hours, but it is like a timer going off at three hours - ding! he's ready to eat. He probably has an hour or two of wakefulness total in a day.

My little guy goes anywhere between 15 minutes and 2 hours between feedings, but isn't fully "awake" more than a total of an hour a day, if that. Though, he's only 2 days old yet.
Ds#1 keeps asking when the baby is going to be awake to play.
I think he keeps waking so often because he's already addicted to milkies.

Oh, Satori. DH came in and read your post over my shoulder, and offered a very sarcastic, "awe, poor baby, she slept through the night?"
:
Seriously though, DD slept about 23 hours a day when she came home from the hospital. Now though, as she's nearing 2 months real age (still not supposed to be born yet!) she's easily awake 6 or 7 hours a day. Usually at least one of those hours is overnight, and she does most of her nutritive eating at night, which means that she's up and hungry almost every hour and a half, since she's no longer programmed to the NICU schedule of eating every 3 hours. Of course, she's not nursing, so that means warming/mixing bottles, depending on what's on hand!!
I wouldn't be too worried, mama. If babe is having enough wet/soiled diapers a day, and is gaining weight, you're doing everything right. Enjoy the rest!

Satori! Interesting enough my babe sleeps constantly--awake for maybe 2 hours but still manages to wake up to eat often! If i'm lucky it is 3 hours between a feeding--otherwise it's every 1 1/2 to 2 hours.... And boy does he wake up hungry!

I'm with ya. Phoenix is awake maybe a total of about 2 hours a day. For the first two weeks I had to wake him to feed him and it was a hard thing to do! He was so sleepy and just didn't want to wake... but was having lots of dirty dipes and obviously getting enough. Just the other day though he started waking more often (every 1.5 hours) to nurse so he'll probably start packing on the weight now... lol!
