The Secret---- anyone seen it? - Page 10

And I'm kind of creeping myself out lately.

Long story I'll try to make short, my 18 year old son wants to join the Marines. I desparately don't want him to join because I'm very frightened about the next 5 or 6 years.

We went on vacation and he stayed home to go to football practice/summer camp, but he went up to Harrisburg to join the Marines. When he called, I knew what he was doing and was completely sick about it. I prayed and asked G-d to keep him from joining. I kid you not, I can't make this up, he had an infected zit on his ass and got rejected medically.

His ass zit has since healed and he told me yesterday that he was going up to Harrisburg to swear in on Saturday. I was sick and starting wishing an ass zit on him, but it felt wrong for some reason like things don't happen twice the same time.

I prayed and asked for something to change, but I couldn't complain because the more pressure I put on him, the more he will resist.

Today, after football training, he said he wasn't going to go to Harrisburg, he was going to see if he could play football in college.

I am so completely astonished by this because it was just yesterday he was going to be sworn in.

Debra you bring up an interesting point: visualizing for other people.

As a parent there are times my Inner Mommy Tiger wants to visualize peace and health for my kids or dh.

And then I wonder about whether I should mess with someone else's intentions (if you've read Narnia I think about Aslan's belief that you should not ask about someone else's story.)

But the conclusion I've come to is, if you have the highest good in mind, it's a good thing to wish health, peace and safety for loved ones.

I want all the repairs done in the house and I'm trying to make our footprint smaller.

I am starting to think, in the past few days, if I come into unexpected money, I should buy a really fuel efficient car to drive and keep the van for family trips. Everything seems to go back to having things prepaid and ready.

Does this make sense to anyone else?
Yes it totally makes sense!

as for christianity and The Secret.. I suppose it depends on your background.. I mean I know there are some churches that frown on therapists or therapy and some churches frown on medicine and some frown on this and that...but they are all christian. kwim? But my sense is that I think for you, debra you will see The Secret as totally lining up with your spiritual beliefs... just my vibe.

This is AWESOME!

yep, Debra I definitely believe The Secret is a total support of your spiritual nature.. totally.

Hi everybody. I am totally new to this forum--have never stepped foot in "spirituality." The first thread I opened was this one and I have watched the movie, ordered it, and it has opened the door to some marathon discussions between dh and me. So I was lurking here for a couple of days, but so much of what I have read here is so beautiful and amazing, and the vibe is so good on this thread that I hope it is okay if I jump in

I'm kind of going through something now with dd, and I really have taken to the idea of treasure maps. I know March is long gone, but I think I will make a map anyway as some others of you have mentioned. I wanted to say to the poster who asked about Christianity and The Secret that I bet a lot of what is in the movie will really resonate with you.

I was raised Christian but have sort of fallen away from it. I have had many conversations with Christian friends and relatives over the past year though, about prayer and healing and abundance. So much of what is in The Secret reminds me of those conversations--the idea that you "claim" what you want and know that God has granted it to you, the idea that you should be very specific in your prayers, in asking for what you want (not just "I want a job," but "I want a job that will pay more and allow me to spend more time with my children.") The idea that you should be thankful to God--or the universe--for what is good in your life.

Hi naismama and any other newbies/lurkers!

It's really amazing the kind of mental shifts watching this movie often can make. I read about a guy on the website who made a commitment to watch it every day for a year. I've watched it several times this week and can see major shifts in my thinking. Dh too.

Welcome, naismama!!! How exciting to finally see you here. We've been waiting for you!

I still haven't had a chance to watch it. I was wondering though, it the amazon version the same thing?

DH and I watched the DVD last week, and it spurned one of the longest, deepest conversations we've had in a long time. Our spiritual beliefs are so much closer in line than I think either of us thought, whch was so interesting to me and was really wonderful. It's neat, too... since watching it we remind each other to turn around our thinking to become positive... to visualize things the way we want them, not how we don't want them, or worry they will be. It really has made a difference in the day to day stuff, which in turn has had a positive impact on the whole week... etc.

I haven't got the amazon dvd yet, still another week or two before it's due. I promise to report back here when I see it and let you all know if it's the right one or not.

After getting so revved up by the Secret I bought and read Ask and it is Given by Esther and Jerry Hicks. It was even more helpful than the Secret and now between the two of them I feel very positive that I can use this not just for myself but for good for others.

One problem I do have is with faith -- trust in others has been very hard for me, and trust in a higher being. So to have faith that this will work for me is a real life challenge and one that I think I was "called to" at this point in my life to do some healing.

Debra: Re the Christianity aspect
There is a line in the Bible about how when you see something good someone else has, you feel jealous, or you start a fight to take it, but the reason you dont have it yourself is because YOU HAVE NOT ASKED FOR IT. (Capitals mine!!) I believe it may be James 4:2?? Sorry, I don't have a Bible anymore, but this sticks in my mind because it was part of a child's book I had. The message is that you must ask for what you want, and then prove yourself worthy. (At least that is the way I am remembering it!) That is very much the core of The Secret, except for the proving yourself worthy bit.

Funny, I was meditating on coveting today, what it is and why its so wrong.

I am not coveting anything that belongs to someone else, I rarely do, but I've seen it as destructive.

One element of it is thinking you are somehow not worthy because you don't have something.

I'm really starting to think, for humans, not like animals, there is no fierce competition with others for scarce resources, we're all G-d's children and we all deserve to be blessed, not one at the expense of the other, but all.

...the worthy part is correct too because if you don't think yourself worthy of something...God/Universe will not provide it. You have to believe you deserve it...that you are indeed worthy of it.

I've been doing small things and lately I'm collecting all kinds of good things.

For the last few weeks I've been wanting to locate an affordable copper fire pit for my back yard. I know, maybe it's a weird domestic want but I love the look of the things.

I located one saturday morning at a yard sale brand new in the box for $20. PLUS, it's exactly the one I had admired IN the store

Next, I'm aiming for the free standing yard/porch swing. I know it's coming, I can feel it!

I received this in my in box this morning from the www.urielheals.com newsletter. I thought I'd share it:

Lying in the Bed You Made
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My mother used to tell me 'you made your bed and you have to lie in it' when I was in a difficult situation. What she meant was that I had created something that I was now stuck with. In her belief system, that meant forever. And I believed that for a long time too, until one day she made the 'lying in your bed' comment to me and I responded with "I think it's time to change the sheets." She didn't understand what I was talking about but I had experienced an awakening-I was not stuck with anything and if I didn't like my current reality, I had the power to change it.
My mother's generation believed, and still believes, that things don't and can't change, that we get one opportunity to create what we want and if that doesn't work, we're out of luck. Many of them stayed in difficult relationships or jobs that never allowed them to fulfill their potential because they never thought that they could create anything else. This is the generation that many of us were raised by and these are the beliefs that they imparted to us. Thankfully, we now know better.

Everything in our reality reflects what we believe about it, no more and no less. No matter what a situation is, it is only our belief about how bad it is or how long the pain will last that makes it difficult. If we do not believe that it can be changed, it can seem hopeless. But we now know that we have the power to change anything and everything about our reality. And we also have to remember that we are learning new things every day. Each experience has something to teach us, including and especially the ones that we feel are truly horrible. What do we need to learn so that we can move on or 'change the sheets'?

That's not to say that there horrible situations don't exist and that they are acceptable. But we do not have to stay in any situation that does not bring us satisfaction and joy. If we do it is because we choose that as an option for ourselves. We connect to our power when we decide that we want something different in our reality, that we are not afraid to choose joy over sadness, to choose love over pain and to create the reality that is right for us and allows us to experience life that reflects our most cherished dreams. This week, if you are in a difficult situation, examine it with the belief that change is possible. What changes can you make in your beliefs about yourself that can make a new reality possible? You are never stuck unless you believe you are and the Universe is there to help you once you decide to make changes. Use this power to create the reality that you want to live.

Question:
How do we share The Secret with some of our MDC friends who don't go to spirituality? Any ideas?
We can't link to the website for sure! Wonder if a link to this thread in a signature?

"I've got a secret!"

Edited to add: I don't think we could do it in our sig, because The Secret is a for pay thing....Let me ask admin.

No signature linking until you hear back from me

I was thinking about that too. I guess it wouldn't have to be an actual link though, just the web address in another color?

I was actually thinking a link to our thread here in spirit--not their website. Click my link above Then you could choose to either click on it or not. Or perhaps we could start a loan thing going?
