Well, or anyone else who knows anything about this stuff..

I come to you for insight. My ds seems to have a post nasal annoying cough from allergies right now. He is not vaccinated. He has had this cough whenever he gets a cold or runny nose from a virus (same kind of thing my brother had growing up... its a hack, yet it does produce mucous). I have terrible allergies and it seems he does too from pollen. At his 5 yr checkup the other day the doc said his chest was a bit tight and I explained the cough, and he suggested zyrtec at night, which I declined. When its really bad, i give him a dose of benadryl which dries out the cough and he can sleep soundly. Tonight and two nights ago he woke up and needed another dose to sleep. Tonight the coughing was really bad and took a good half hour for us to calm him down and get him to stop coughing. I read somewhere that vitamin c can help, so I gave him some sodium ascorbate and thought of you. Do you have any suggestions? I recently took him off milk in an effort to calm him as I read milk can be a trigger for hyperness in some kids that have that problem with chocolate, which he does, and it really worked, he has been much calmer ever since. He did have an ice cream today with milk in it, do you think that would effect his cough and make it worse? Could it be asthma? I read that coughing can be a side effect of dairy too? Should I have him allergy tested.... Im thinking of doing a thorough cleaning in his room, washing all bedding and curtains in hot water, and doing a good dusting....... Id appreciate any advice

thanks!!:

Sounds similar to my son- the allergist gave us zyrtec as well but we decided to go see a ND. He has improved, now dairy free, we do a 'super clean' of his room every week and gave him kid friendly chinese herbs (from the ND) plus we have done some homeopathy. Hope this gives you some ideas

Sounds like a dairy allergy to me. Time to start reading labels. Nothing w/ even traces of milk, at least for now, until you're sure. I would be very concerned that he gets a tight chest. That could be asthma, but it could also be that he's gearing up to an anaphylactic reaction to something, maybe milk.
