Anyone read the Series of Unfortunate Events?

I just bought Book the First, and it is such a beautifully designed book. They are little hardcover books with beautiful illustrations and the old tattered-edge pages. The premise of the books seems so original, I can't wait to start. Sorry to Harry Potter fans (I've only managed to read a few pages of the first Potter book), but these seem so much more creative.

Actually now that I've read the first one, I'm not so impressed. They were inventive but I couldn't stand how he dealt with the baby; it was too much for me.

The author is Lemony Snickett.

My 10 year old son loves these books! He is just starting Book the Seventh, The Vile Village.

The parts he reads to me are pretty hysterical.
