Send me good ped vibes, please

So I finally did it. I've scheduled an appointment for dd with a local ped. She hasn't seen a doctor since she was 6 weeks old (she's 8 months now). We're only doing it as a "meet and greet" type of thing since we just got her insured and we've never met him or her (not sure from the name). I know NOTHING about this ped--he/she was the only one in our city accepting new patients, so we were essentially assigned to him/her. I am now reading the "Name that lie . . . and other scaremongering stories and quotes from your ped" thread and DREADING Monday. Please be cool, Dr. Rana, please be cool.

I hope everything goes well for you.
Just a note, if this Dr ends up not working out, I've heard that Family Practitioners can be a little more relaxed about the vax issue

Just smile, be really friendly and don't let him/her rattle your cage. If he/she starts pushing the vax trip, just say "that's not on my list for discussion until I have informed myself more fully..."

Hey Mama, we moved from Benicia recently and I know it's not SUPER close for you, but Dr. Bowers in Benicia was really cool about us not vaxing. He was a great guy all around, very mellow and smart and didn't rush through appointments - answered questions with respect. When I told him we weren't vaxing he said he would prefer that we didn't but wouldn't push it. He mentioned the MMR/autism link as being false (the "study" had just come out debunking it) and I said, "yeah, but my mom had measles and was fine, mumps *might* make him sterile, but won't really hurt him and rubella will never affect him." His response was, "I guess you're right. Polio won't kill him either!"

I have his number if you want to try him out. He's a family doc, not a pediatrician, but was fine being ds's ped.

Good luck with Dr. Rana though! Keep us posted!

Good luck mama

I'm in a similar situation, DS is 16 months and has his first ped's appt tomorrow so they can confirm his hernia The last time I took him was when he was 2 weeks.

I am kinda nervous about it even though I am 100% confident in my decision not to vax. When I called today to make the appt the receptionist said wow he hasn't been here for a long time, he's way overdue for a physical and hasn't had any of his scheduled shots. I did end up scheduling another appt for next week to have him weighed and measured, etc but I told the lady on the phone he won't be getting any shots, not tomorrow or next week. She was just like "well... okay" and I have a feeling she wrote it on his chart so I am expecting some type of lecture from the ped. It is a very mainstream office with a bunch of peds, CNP's and PA's on staff so I am pretty sure they will be very pro-vax.

I agree with MT, If the ped gives me a hard time about vax's I am going to tell her I am not here to discuss this with you, I am declining all shots... now give me a refferal for DS's surgery so I can schedule that."

Let us know how the appt goes, it's interesting to me the way ped's address this.

Well, I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for the rec, mammom, if things don't go well with Dr. Rana, I will definitely keep Dr. Bowers in mind. I just posted in Finding My Tribe. Maybe someone there has heard of him/her and can share their experiences--just so I can be mentally and morally prepared
