test vaccine for money

A former co-worker who has a eight week old son brought up the subject of her son's vaccinations. She said that they also had a "test vaccine" that wasn't approved yet. She now has to chart his rectal temperature and go back for three check-ups, but, she responded positively, "They pay you $25 per visit." When I asked what the vaccine was supposed to prevent, she said that it was meningitis and "some other stuff." Has anyone heard of this vaccine or testing for money like this?

WHY on EARTH would you do something so INSANE?????? Allowing testing on your newborn and for a pittance!!!!!!!!!! O my goodness. I really haven't heard of a new meningitis vaccine the HiB covers the meningitis issue so far as I know.

There's a meng vax in Canada used on babies. They have altered the schedule since it came out. Before it was as an infant, and I *think* it's a one year now, but still might be earlier as it was recently changed. I think it's Meng C or something.

I can not believe anyone would use their child as a guinea pig for a new experimental drug :Puke

imagine if her baby had a serious reaction or complications from this vaccine? would $25 really make the mother feel any better that she used her precious baby as a science experiment? for $25 a visit?!

The minimal amount of money isn't really the main point. Even if it was $20,000 a visit, if the baby got sick or died the parents would still be heartbroken and feeling horribly guilty. Perhaps even more guilty!

If something is a bad idea more money doesn't make it a better idea.

I'm sorry, but now I'm angry. WTF is wrong with this women. Two things here 1.) Is she just that ignorant and uneducated and void of all motherly instinct that she would allow her child to be a guinea pig for some unapproved vax. I mean sheesh the FDA already approves deadly pharmaceuticals everday much less the vax's that don't make it in. 2.) It never cease's to amaze me that we live in a country where people have to take an examination that they have study for to operate a motor vehicle but are free to get out and have a baby and use it for experiments for a $25 reimbursement for their troubles without any expressed knowledge of what they are doing?:

Disgusting on so many levels.

Here in Kansas City they offer money to test the smallpox. I think it paid $600. or maybe even more. They would pay $200 if you refered someone who was willing to be tested for smallpox. There are these testing facilities that dose you with so much of the drug they are testing until they get a reaction. You would be getting much more than the normal dose, they are basically testing toxic levels too, to see what happens when someone gets too much. Some people go in for a stay and can make $2,000 to test these drugs, so they do it.

Thats just wrong on so many levels. Why do people get up in arms over animal testing but continue to be okay with human testing? It really is sad.

Thanks for the validation. I agree with all of you, and I couldn't believe my co-worker is doing that! I wanted to get another perspective and try to learn about the vaccine because it made absolutely no sense to me. I have questioned my friendship with this woman. Since she has had the baby, there has been SO many issues that we disagree on. I don't believe in passing judgement on parenting choices, but when there may be harm to the baby, it's a different story. She has no family nearby and very few friends, so I was trying to be friendly and provide another perspective on parenting. This however, may be the last straw.

That is just so very, very sad You know, people criticize non-vaxers for "not protecting their kids" but then they give money to vaxxers to offer up their babies as lab rats :

this is just wrong imo.

i wouldnt let my child be a guinea pig for 75 bucks, or for 75 million.

hmmmmmmmmm....i wonder if i'm cool enough to wave the finger at seenty five million dollars....

that said, i think sticking stuff up kids' butts is really, really, really not cool.

I feel a bit of compassion for someone so poor off that they would vaccinate for 25 dollars....somebody teach her how to buy and resell sell things on ebay. Get her into a career program so she has some choices...something.

You bring up a valid point. Risala, do you happen to know the woman's financial situation? It doesn't make using a baby as a test subject for money any better, but it could explain things a bit.

OMG, that is terrible!!!! I bet she would feel absolutely HORRID if that child ends up having a reaction to these test drugs!!

I do not care what her situation is financially, I would rather live on the street than do that.... $25 or $25,000,000

I am right there with you on the animal testing thing.. I am a vet tech, and I cannot believe the stories I hear about the testing that goes on right at Purdue (work in the same town)

IMHO, most Moms who do this think "Wow, I am getting this AWESOME protection for my baby before anyone else, AND they are paying me for it!"

This is how they are made to feel. Before I hada clue, I may have considered somethign liek this. At oone time, I thought NOTHING of vaccines. Heck, you can walk in any clinic and get a vvax for free, no questions asked! I had extra doses asa kid b/c the ylost records and it is nothing, "vaxes are soooo safe."

Sad but true...I have learned BUT many think the yare lucky participating in this!

That said, I have participated in studies on sense of smell (with my child) for $$. No drugs involved. I also have had me and my kids do consumer research for $$-heck at thetime 8yo DD got $35 to taste a lollipop and giver her opinion! She then bnought us dinner...lmao

I would never ever involve me or the kids in drug trials...never.
