Well, I just wanted to add...it's a fun thread!
I have five kids...boy, girl, boy, boy, girl...and now due with number six on March 22, 2007...they are named like this:

Asher Garcia
Olivia Marley
Elias Dylan
Benjamin Hendrix (a bit more of a mouthful and I've rethought it many times since and wish we had named him Hudson Hendrix, but I am an avid Felicity fan, and if you know the show, you know Ben....sigh...)
Naomi Presley (please don't say NIGH-omi or I may have to kill you...you can't imagine how many people pronounce it that way)

Anyway, you see our pattern, with the middle names, choosing a beloved musician...so I always know the middle name first for some reason...this one's middle name will be Cash...after the late great Johnny. We really love John Lennon, but seriously, I have yet to find a first name, followed by Lennon, followed by our beautiful melodic Italian last name that sounds right...it also reminds me of the dictator Lenin, so...can't happen.

This all said, I can't believe you're all thinking of names already! I'm up all night researching UC/UP....name-storming seems like such frivolity.....

For a boy I think we'll use Charles and call him Charlie. A girl will be named Elizabeth, Caroline or Adele.

Love Caroline That was *almost* me, then mom was afraid of the teasing factor (made no difference, I was teased about it anyway...no big deal). Elizabeth is nice too.

Ok. Really, I posted earlier on this thread, thinking I was pregnant. I wasn't, but I'm hopeful again and since I had my kids at 39 and then 38 weeks I could end up being a March Mama. Otherwise, my edd would be April 8.

Anyway.....I thought of a couple more names I like, so thought I'd add them, in case any of you like them.

Acacia for a girl. I love this name and have a client named Acacia. I just think it looks really pretty. Plus, the girl that owns this name is gorgeous.

Also, Cicada. There is an amazing rock climbing girl with this name. In case you are wondering how it's prn, it's Si-kay-dah. She's only 11 and is the only girl her age that has climbed V11 while bouldering...That's really amazing.

How do you pronounce Acacia? By looking I would a Ah Kay Shuh, is that correct?
Do you know that cicada is a bug? http://www.ivyhall.district96.k12.il...ts/cicada.html you may want to rethink that one. Many people love the sound of a cicada but I remember them keeping me up many nights as a child when I lived in Arizona & Nevada

Acacia is prn like you said it. At least, the girl I know prn it that way.

My cervix feels really different than it did at this time last month, so I'm hopefull! It's really high and soft.

Hey grapejuicemama. I was actually originally thinking the same thing Keri said. I've loved all the other names you've mentioned in this thread, but I just couldn't get past the bug definition of Cicada. However, "Cricket" seems cute for a girl's name, so I don't know why I had a problem with "Cicada"! I think the name Cicada is prettier than the name Cricket anyway. So I think it's growing on me.

Hi Astro-

Jonas is a nice name. As far as single syllable nn, Jose works, but I'd be sure it's a soft "s" as in snake and not a hard "z" sound like hose-hoze.

On another note, my DH said Miles is ok, but he totally nixed all my other boy names. He doesn't even want to talk girl names really because he's hoping that if we are pg, we'll have another boy. I guess he doesn't want to jinx himself. I'd like another boy too, but girls are so much more fun to name!

I LOVE Jonas - it is at the top of my list
I personally don't care for Jose with Jonas, is there special meaning behind the name? Is it important to stick with JJ initials? Here are some other one syllable options:

Um. It sounds pretty, but you know that old joke about the girls named Rubella and Anesthesia? It's pretty much the same thing as naming your kid Locust. I hate to say this, but if I ran into a Cicada, my first thought would be, "Wow, kid, your parents must have been ignorant," and my second would be, "Darn, those bugs are loud and irritating." Not exactly the best first impression.

Oh, Keri, I just didn't word my post very well! I didn't mean Jose as a middle name, I'm concerned about one syllable nicknames. "Jonas Jose", oh my, no, that wouldn't be his name. It would probably be "Jonas Ray" or something. Good one-syllable nicknames are important to me because I'm too lazy to use entire names -- I always call everyone in the house by one-syllable versions of their names.

If you don't want to use the big huge 5 letter Jonas Maybe you could give him a middle name like Ray so you could call him JR? I have a son named Brendan and I call him B sometimes Though generally I am the opposite of you and use the longest version possilbe - usually their first and middle but sometimes their first with another nick name tagged on the back = Brendan Bear, Avery Bean, Keriannie Banananie Butt

My DD is Avery also. When she was a baby, I used to call her "Little Miss Avery Pumpkin Pie Pants". Haven't called her that in many years! Now I pretty much only call her "Aves". I LOVE her nickname, and I just have to have something that I like as much for the next child... can't have nickname envy, ya know!

Oooo, my niece (whom I met this weekend and is the CUTEST baby EVER - at least until, oh, next March!) is named after the two grandmothers, but still gets called her womb name of Petunia a bunch. Since birth, that has evolved into Princess Petunia Pees-a-Lot.

As someone with the pets Chewbaca the Wookie-Poodle (called Chewie), Senor Medianoche del Diablo the Stinky Sheep Dog Cat (called Midnight), and KC McChaos the Kansasian College Dog of Eastern Indiana and Way West PDX (called Chaos), I thoroughly approve of these types of nicknames.

Oh, and my partner (a man, btw), is The G-Funk Wo-man, Cabana Boy and Kitchen Slave Extrordinaire (no, that's not three different nicks, that's his official title around here ).
