Ergo or Mei Tai?

I have quite a few Carriers that I Love for all different reasons and I even sell slings and wraps and give babywearing classes... however... I have never tried either of these....

Usually I put ds on my back with my Ellaroo wrap or one of my stretchy wraps but I want to try something different...

Both look so Comfortable and look pretty easy to use... I love the look of the Mei Tai (I am looking at a babyhawk) but I can see how DH would like the Ergo better...

I would love to have both but I don't have the funds

So What do you like about each... if you have both which do you like the most... I love using wraps or ring slings for newborn... So I don't really mind if it doesn't work well with that age..

Wondering the same thing

I was begging DH for an Ergo until I saw a Mei Tai at Barnes and Noble yesterday.... now I can't decide

I would have said ergo before, but I've become really attached to my MTs. I think it depends on your needs. I can snap that ergo on and off in a flash, even though I'm used to my MTs and do use them for errands and such. The MT is secure, but I personally would prefer the ergo if I were really hiking around for exercise. I found them both super comfy, and I have the ergo classic- I hear the NG is even better. Something about the MT just feels cozier. I still want the ergo NG but I just got another MT, so that's obviously where my preferences lie. If you use a wrap, I'm guessing you'd like a MT. I'm curious to hear what others would say.
I suppose if I could just have one, I might say the ergo just b/c it's a tad easier, if less fun.

You saw a MT at Barnes and Noble in Springfield? Wow! I've never seen one in Chicago outside of my house! I know they're out there. You know, it's so funny b/c I so balked at the ergo price initially, and so got the classic at clearance price. Now I'd get the thing in a heartbeat if I didn't have one. I just use them SO much.

I love my mei ties but I hope to get an Ergo before baby arrives. I like variety.

I find the Ergo to be easier. I'm definitely a buckle person, rather than a tie your own knots person.

I know, weird huh? Aside from my ring sling I've seen 1 new native, 1 mei tai (the lady also showed me her solarveil hotsling!) and a lot of snugglies

Well... usually DH is no help... but told him that I was having a dilema and he said to get the one that he will be able to use the easiest... since he has trouble getting ds on his back without my help...
So I told him that that was probably the Ergo... then I made a comment on being bummed cause I really liked the MT...:

So he said that we could just get it in a few months... money will be less tight after the vaccation...

So I ordered the Ergo and I can't wait to get it now...

Well I have both.

MT-----love the look, the coziness & even the feel. I'm not a huge fan of the backcarry with the MT. I have to get it *just right* or DS starts to sag. This bugs me. Getting DS out of this if he falls asleep is SO easy. I can easily untie him & lay him down

Ergo---not that pretty. Front carry is a bit awkward IMO. I for the life me cannot get DS out of this carrier if he falls asleep. He always wakes up. : So when it's nap time I always reach for a ring sling or my MT. The back carry on the Ergo rocks My problem is getting DS onto my back. It's not that easy & I've practiced a lot. So I usually only use my ergo when I know someone can help me put DS into it.

So I think you really have to evaluate what you need this new carrier for. They are both wonderful. Are you sure there's no way you could get both?

I borrowed an ergo for a month to decide and am flad i did. Now i know that a mei tei works way better for me! I love my babyhawk, the ergo dug in in the belly, the mei tia just feels like its a part of my body.

I have both.

MT- I have a babyhawk. I LOVE it. I use it for the front carry, for quick errands, and for naps. My dd is 22 lbs, 8 months old, and she needs to be bounced on the yoga ball to nap! So the MT is essential for us. I don't like the back carry. It hurts my back no matter how I tie it. The BH MT's are very beautiful and well made too.

Ergo- Love it for the back carry, haven't tried the front or side. I use it for our daily neighborhood walks and for errands when we are walking. I haven't really mastered getting her into it without a couch, but we are working on that. I don't like that I can't interact with her as much when she's on my back, but it's easier to carry her and shop or walk the dog with her on the back. I don't love the look of the Ergo, but I'm more about function than looks anyways.

Tough decision. It really depends on what you are going to use it primarily for.

I know you've already ordered yours, but for the other mamas checking this thread I wanted to add another option here: www.ecobabies.com has the bECOpack carrier...it's a cross between a MT and an Ergo and I've heard wonderful things about it

The Ecobabies carrier looks awesome, unfortunately they're closed to orders at the moment... lovely fabrics though!

DH made an MT and I like to use that far better than the Ergo. Quite frankly, I couldn't figure out what all the noise was about the Ergo. To me, it was uncomfortable and bulky. I'm a fairly large chested and wide hipped woman and it was just a nightmare. I couldn't snap any of the snaps where they were supposed to be snapped so the straps and things just kept on slipping off. I far prefer an MT any day.

I got my Ergo yesterday and we tried it out a few times... (DH and I) and we love it... DH still needs to get used to adjusting it...but it has nothing to do with the carrier but his lack of ability when it comes to thos kinds of straps...

In a few months I will be getting a MT too... or making one... I can't wait to try that also...

I just ordered a Baby Patapum from http://www.attachedtoBaby.com to use for carrying on the back.
The price seems to be a bit more reasonable then say the Ergo and from what I've read the Ergo isn't so great for short wearers(like me).

This is the carrier that I hope my DH will decide to use. All my other carriers were sized for me so he was never able to give them a go.


I had been eyeing the Baby Hawk MT's for a while then decided to go with a more strutured version of it for now as learning to tie a MT spooks me a bit. Will give it a go when I see a good deal.

I had also wanted to get a bECO for style when she reopened but since she is not for a while and I can not stand to wait found http:www.jackpackbabycarriers.com who is going to make me a custom.
