AROM before pitocin

We are going to be induced tomorrow if we don't go tonight. I am wondering if anyone had their water broke before they tried pitocin..I am thinking that would be better to try first so I can still be mobile..but wanted to think if there were any negatives to doing that.

Yep, my midwives broke my water before pitocin. I was 4cm dialated and almost fully effaced. I started having contractions almost right away and they picked up quickly.

I had a long, hard, labor though. I labored at 8cm for so long that they gave me a VERY slow drip of pitocin, which didn't change things that much. I was VBACing, though, so they didn't want to give me much at all.

THe only problem with having your water broken is that you are on the clock. They won't let you go very long without delivering the baby once you have done it.

BUT, it worked to get my labor going, but I was in labor for 16 hours and it ended in a repeat cesarean. I'm so sad about it. It was due to malpositioning, though...

Good luck

I had a slow leak of amniotic fluid which started on its own. After 12 hours of trying to get contractions going on my own (by walking mostly), I ended up with a slow drip of pitocin. Contractions started almost immediately. My OB wanted me to deliver w/in 24 hrs of the discovery of the leak and that's just about what it was.
Good luck! I hope you go into labor tonight though and can avoid all the intervention. Either way, easy labor vibes to you!
