Who will be cloth diapering??? - Page 2

I can't wait to be using cloth diapers again!! (Yes, I was one of those pathetic cding moms who was a little depressed about the whole potty-learning thing). I haven't decided what we'll be using for the newborn days yet. . . so many options!

Last time, we used a service for the first few months (not all diaper services use bleach, ours didn't (the diapers just got stained instead), and even if they DID use bleach, they still don't have the gel in them, so I think better for babe than mainstream sposies. In the book "Diaper Changes," the author argues that a diaper service is the MOST environmentally friendly option since their washers are more efficient and use less water. . . Not sure about that, but I definitely would pick a service over sposies), but that's not an option now (we moved), and I wouldn't choose it anyway. I am DONE with prefolds!

We ended up using all the different types of diapers last time, prefolds, fitteds, all-in-two's, pul wraps, wool wraps, wool soakers, pocket diapers. . . and ended up trying out fuzzi bunz (pocket diapers) at 18 months and selling off all the rest of my stash to use fuzzi bunz exclusively.

I think I will probably use fitteds and wool wraps for the first 2-3 months with this baby, and then switch over to fuzzi bunz, but dw really wants us to go with fuzzi bunz from the start. We already have 12 preemie and 6 small fuzzi bunz from our foster baby, but I don't think I want to rely on using fuzzi bunz exclusively in the beginning since I'm not sure how good they'd be with breastfed poop (our foster baby was formula fed, and his poops weren't that runny).

Decisions, decisions. . .

We used fuzzi bunz from the start and it was no problem with brestmilk poo. We probably had 3 explosions total. So, they were great for us! I just overlapped the top snaps because they were a little loose on his belly.

I am going to CD and really try EC as well. I have bought a few of several different kinds of dipes online, and I guess I will just figure it out as I go. I am really attached to not using sposies at all, and looking forward to the whole thing.

Bummis is a Montreal company and they have their store right near Mount-Royal in a really cool district of Montreal...

They sell all of their diapers of course (in all of the cutest prints)... wraps, slings,"the Kokoon", robeez, organic nursing/maternity wear and kids clothes, nusing teas and a whole array of other NFL products...

It was also one of the only places that I could find a Mothering Mag....

We used the dispoables they sent us home from the hospital with (less than a week's worth) until the meconium was done. After that, we've been in cloth almost the whole time. I did European prefolds from http://www.weebees.com in the small and then the medium from about 3 months on with covers I got at our thrift store (I'll be using proraps/prowraps (sp?) this time from the beginning - I got them when we switched to the bigger prefolds and loved them), and we have fuzzibunz for overnight and outings. I get those from http://www.clothdaddy.com - he's WONDERFUL - I can't say enough about his customer service, seriously!

When he was solely breastfed (8-9 months), we would just take the diaper pail along with us and do a load of dipes if we had to. But once he started solids, I had a hard time being away from my diaper sprayer to get the thicker poop off the dipes. So now, when we're going to be away overnight (which is rare), I get the Seventh Generation disposables. It doesn't do anything for the landfil - they still sit there forever... and they're pricey. But they're not bleached, which was my biggest concern... I didn't want the chemicals against his tiny bits all the time I can't get them locally, so we got them at Whole Foods when we visited my mom (Chicago) or I'll order them from 1800diapers.com.

I love Fuzzi Bunz! I started using them with my 5th baby, and I'm so happy I made the switch (it was easy too). I can't believe how much money we spent diapering our first 4 with disposables (I figure it was around $6,000 ~ maybe even more ) Anyway, my store link is in my signature if you're interested. Also, you can find a lot of great info at diaperpin.com

I cloth diapered my 1st DS and DD from about 4 month son. My 2nd DS was cloth diapered from birth to when we started selling our house and I was having a hard time keeping up with the laundry. But I really want to cloth diaper this little guy. I just need to pull out my NB stash and see what I have and what I could use alittle more of. I know I have alot of fitteds and wool covers and some AIOs. I htink I'd like to get a few more fitteds in the styles i really liked and maybe some more wool.

We'll be cloth diapering again. Plain old chinese prefolds with a wrap or wool soaker. Our first was exclusively CD. We started with the second but had to switch to disposables when the plumbing problems started. (too much water in a clogged septic system is not good) Now that we've spent the money to fix the septic problem and bought a water conserving washer, we'll go back to cloth.

I was considering using one of these "test drive packages":

http://www.sunshinediapers.com/WebSt...=index&cPath=7

but I'm not sure...would it be cheaper to just buy a variety of diapers from ebay or something to experiment with rather than this test drive set?
I looked at Sunshine Diapers and I'm really impressed with them. I think her idea of test-driving diapers is brilliant! Of course, the initial outlay of $225 for a set of newborn diapers is a lot. That would have scared dh when we were buying cloth when I was pg the first time. He was against cloth, and even surveyed women he works with to find others who hadn't liked cloth. (Yes, he found several, but they'd only used prefolds, pins, and rubber pants, so their opinions were irrelevant to me. ) But the great thing about the Sunshine idea is that you *return* the set and get $170 credit for it, so you're really only spending $55 for newborn diapers. Then you would use your $170 store credit to buy whatever you liked best in a larger size. If you opted to go with prefolds and Bummi's, your $170 could almost certainly get you all the way to potty training. AND you get to use some fitted diapers in the newborn stage to contain the runny breastfed poo!

As far as my story goes, we're planning to CD this next baby, most definitely! We used CD with dd from the time she was a couple weeks old. I've tried a lot of different things. I've really loved prefolds and Bummi's for the vast majority of use, but we've always used Sugarpeas hemp with microfleeced-topped soakers for night-time. That way, dd doesn't feel as wet at night and doesn't need to be changed at the drop of a hat.

For this next babe, I'm trying to figure out what we'll use, so I can get more dipes, especially for the newborn period. Part of it is we think we're having a boy and some of my dipes are girly. Of course, it doesn't really matter, but it is a good reason to buy more fluff! Also, I resold the NB covers to a friend, so I need more of those anyway.

My other big project right now is learning to knit soakers--I'm taking a class in how to do that with Pamelamama right now here:

So glad I saw the ad on MDC!

We've been CDing our DS for almost a year. We use FB and KL, with a variety of covers. I love Proraps, and a wool wrap.

I can't wait to CD a newborn! My favorite CD website, www.zannadu.com, has a great newborn prefold package with a good variety of covers that I plan to buy, as well as a dozen or so KL Size 0 and a few bumGenius (which I'm dying to try!!). There are a lot of websites out there that show you how to fold a prefold in different ways to help contain the BF poo, and the Proraps are cheap enough that you can buy a whole bunch, enough to change frequently if they get stuff on them. I've also already bought a dozen small FB when they were on clearance, and plan to use those as soon as I can. When the baby's a few months old, I'll probably get into experimenting with all the other fun ones out there.

I keep nagging DH to get the baby's room cleared out so we can paint, etc. and get it ready. I need to start buying my stash!

Check out the Diapering forum here; they're very helpful and can answer many of your questions.

same here. I have a post it of the sites I want to buy from when we get cleaned out stuck on the monitor. It doesn't help that the baby's "room" (she/he'll be sleeping with us for the first year so more like the baby stuff room) houses the computer and over 800 books...definitely a project for the mr.

I'm going to do cloth too

I have some of my sister's dipes from when her toddler was a little guy, and I've also bought a few different kinds of diapers on ebay to try out. I'm trying simons custom cloth, growing greens, under the nile, ecobaby and sckoon. Mostly I just have a few of each. I also have a lot of bummi wraps but I'm not sure if I will use them since I might do wool. I'll probably just give them back to my sis so she can sell them. But some of them are so darn cute I want to try them too.

All the diapers are so adorable!! I can see I am going to get msyelf in lots of trouble here. I hope I am good at this cloth diapering gig because I really really want to do it.
It seems yucky to put my son in paper...I can't believe I did it without the blink of an eye with my first son. I just never even knew about the possibilities of cloth then.
