I seem to be one of the few mamas here with a skinny babe. He's 10 lbs (up from 6lbs 12, so gaining well) but thats all in length... he's also outgrowing the 0-3 month sleepers, (but not the onesies), but the 3-6 month ones are so baggy! I keep expecting him to chunk up cause i was the queen-o'-chunk as a baby, but he just keeps getting loooonger!

And about the bikini fold- i had a major blowout today (the elimination adventures continue) - what am I doing wrong?

Nope...I've got a wee one as well. She was born at 6 lbs 4 oz, was 8 lbs, 5.5 ounces when she was weighed last Friday (at 4.5 weeks). She's gaining well, but still so teensy--it's astonishing to me that at 5 weeks, she's still smaller than many newborns! We actually had to get a few preemie outfits for her first couple of weeks, and she still doesn't fit into some of her 0-3 clothes (pants, some of the Gao stuff).

Sigh...whenever we think things are getting better, they take a turn for the worse. Yesterday was HORRIFIC. We think dd is just really uncomfortable from reflux. Her ped started her on Prevacid, but getting her to keep the medicine down is close to impossible, so we have no idea how much she's actually getting.

hmmm... i know for us the bikini just recently, (maybe a week or so ago?) started working well here. the chunking up of ds and now the change in his poo to a more peanut butter like consistency i think helped.

he's always pooped large amounts generally so with the runny poo we were getting blowouts a lot. nowadays all the poo doesn't always stay in the dipe but it does stay in the wrap.

is ari's poo still good and runny? if so i found those pretty hard to contain maybe half the time with all kinds of folds. made me feel like i had no idea what i was doing at first. : also i found that when milky's little legs were still super skinny that made it easier for poo to escape.

i'd be inclined to think you're doing it right it's just that ari's poop wants to be free right now. what kinds of covers are you using?

The bikini fold works well for us, but Audrey does have little fat rolls forming so maybe that's why. Are you using snappi or pins to keep it closed? We have less leaking with the bikini than we do with angel fold but I'm sure that baby's shape makes a difference too.

Y'all have me curious how big Audrey is now. She was up to 8lb 2oz at her two week check up (7lb 6oz at birth) but that's been a month. We don't have a WBC for almost 3 weeks. I'll have to weigh us at MIL's house. Awww, she's cooing and smiling at me right now. : Last night she smiled at me for my mom to see and I was sniffling. Ah, motherhood has made me so much more emotional than I used to be. Hard to be reserved around children I guess.

Okay, I better get off here, she's getting squirmy and hard to hold now.

Speaking of poop, we had quite a morning. I took dd out for a walk in her stroller...she was quite content for about 20 minutes and then started WAILING. I gave it a minute or two (sometimes she gives a few yells right before she falls asleep--as though she's so tired she can't take it), then picked her up...poop everywhere! Soaked through her clothes, running down her leg (and my arm), all over the car seat (which I don't know how to clean). I walked her home like this, with her over my shoulder, dripping poop, and me pushing the stroller with one hand. We got home and had a bath.

I just have to say that this thread has been a bit of a lifeline for me lately. It's just so great to hear about other people's days that are filled with the minute details of getting to know a new baby. I have lots of supportive friends, but it's hard to relay my day to day activities to anyone besides my mom or DH. We went to a nice restraunt with DHs boss the other night and they asked me what I'd done that day in a polite, conversational way.

.....uuuuuhhhhhhh......I struggled not to describe every detail of our volcanic spit up morning and how unusual it was for her.

Amanda-that sounds funny/horrible/hilarious! You are doing such a good job with your little gal, hang in there!

thanks for your response mamacats ... Ya- Ari still has runny poo- I'm looking forward to the poo change- though he has stopped pooping at night now ... and by reading your responses I can tell that I used the term "blowout" wrong... he didn't get poop outside his cover, just filled the whole darn cover up... we use bummies covers and they work pretty well. Its just that with the newspaper fold we just get a little poo on the edge of the cover now and then, and with the bikini we got the full load! I think y'all are probably right about thigh size though- its hard to get the diapers tight around those skinny legs and he hates getting a diaper put on (he wishes I would figure out ECing soon so he can be bare bottomed all day long) so he's really squirmy. Maybe I'll just wait on the bikini till he gets a few more rolls

And I second mamatheart's comment about this thread being a lifeline... no matter how great friends and family are, not many people would give me such detailed responses about my baby's poo!- nor would I be quite as inclined to soak up the details of their days the way I do with you mamas!

Ahhhh.... poo!

Kirsten only poops every three days or so. Guess I'm lucky, but I worry constantly that she's not getting enough to eat. If it's not one thing it's another.

Summertime is dragging me down. It's so hot and humid here, I can't take the baby outside during the day. The other two are bored out of their trees, inside all day. If I have to play another second of "cars" I may scream! I've been forcing my 4yo to nap, just to break up the afternoon. Of course, then he's up until 10:00pm. No win.

When I hear so many of you talk about the heat I am so thankful I live in Maine, where I don't think it's topped 80 more that twice this summer. I am miserable in heat and I hate wearing shorts, so this suits me well!

I agree that this thread is wonderful. My DH teases me a little about the time I spend here, especially since I have several friends with babies born in the past 2 months, but I'm not close enough to any of them to get minute details this frequently! And no one else wants to hear how excited I am that Phoebe slept for SEVEN HOURS last night! AND I didn't wake up soaked in milk like I usually do after 5-6 hours!

Happy Thursday mamas!! My week is going well, despite the fact that DH has been all but one day. He is a very lucky man, he get's LOT'S of perks with his work, and has been golfing, and fishing all week with clients. He sucks.: Today has been a crazy day, I feel overwhelmed with the daycare kids today, it's just been so crazy, and Alayna has been funky with nursing today, not sure what's up with that. She screams when she nurses on my right side, any ideas??

Ecoteat- I soooo badly want to visit Maine! DH and I always talk about making an anniversary trip up there someday.

Jaygee- Alayna poops little bits all day long, very different from my other two!

taimarie- I think Alayna has actually only had one or two blowouts so far. My other two were blowouters every diaper change!!

momatheart- I'll third that one! I don't have many(actually no) crunchy friends to chat with, except my LLL mamas, but I don't get to see them very often.

momto1and1ontheway- Good luck with the doc's appt. DD#2 had relux, but not too severe, qw tried Prilosec, Zantac, etc. But I never noticed any different=ce. SHe started to grow out of it by 4-5 months. Even though now she still will have some episodes of heartburn.

Oh, how I miss Maine, and New England in general. I went to college in Maine (Colby) and my whole family lives in New Hampshire and Rhode Island. Sigh..... it's in the 90s here again today.

Congrats on the great night's sleep too. I get about 3 straight hours a night and am happy with that !

Ugh...dd ate ALL day today. 35-40 minutes at a time, then hungry an hour later. She ate herself sick, in fact, and threw up all over me (it's been quite a day for excrement of all kinds). Is this typical of reflux?

Oh Amanda. I'm sure you're thinking if it's not one thing it's another. I hope your little one's reflux starts getting better soon. You are one strong mama, keep it up! And that image of you guys walking home all pooped up did make me .

Hmmm... I dunno what could be up with that screaming when you offer the right side Sydnee. DS seems to favor my left side more. Who knows what goes on in their little heads?

I've lived in Atlanta for most of my life except for the year and a half stint that DH and I were in his home state of WI. I loved the summer, breezy, hot yet not suffocatingly so. Lots of festivals. But the winter. : I'd never experienced anything like that and was completely out of my element so to speak. Nope, the trade off is too great, I'll have no part of it.

Looks like we were sort of x-posting!

I don't know if that's typical of reflux but in the first few weeks due to my OAL issues and tons o' milk DS would throw up sometimes after eating. Have you checked out the Reflux Mamas thread in Life With A Babe Amanda?

not corina but had mastitis...

a disposable diaper soaked in the hottest water you can stand makes a great compress.

find any/all lumps and massage them out

nurse/ pump often and drain the breast
