what exactly are nursing strikes....how soon do they happen? can they happen before a child is eating other things beside breastmilk? my son is now 5months old and he didnt want to eat for several days in a row...i had to feed him while he was sleeping...otherwise he was just not interested. he is nursing fine now. We also are not really thinking of feeding him anything else for a while...is that bad does he need other food? when and what food should i start him on....sorry for so many questions and sorry if this was the wrong place to post this

Yes, sometimes they can happen before a child is eating solids... My son had one when he was about 4 months old. I've read of a lot of moms that tend to go through this around that age.

You did the right thing by feeding him while sleeping. That's what my LC told me to do with my little one, and that's how we made it through for about a week. Eventually he gradually started to nurse when he was groggy, like just waking up. Eventually it all got back to normal.

I've read of another common time to have them is like between 8 months to a year. But they can happen anytime. My babe is 12 months, and never had a really bad one yet though.
