Please take a moment to sign the petition to support HB-1782, legislation to permit breastfeeding in public in Massachusetts - and then pass the link on to five friends!

Petition

6/26/06: I just spoke with David Linsky and he said that the BEST way to get this bill moving is to CALL YOUR REP! So please, call your rep ladies. Let them know you support bill no 1782. It takes just a few minutes.

I signed it, and I forwarded it to the Duxbury LLL, don't know if they will be able to do anything with it, but at least they will know about it.

I just called all three local reps and left messages, one of them is a woman, so hopefully she will be supportive, and one I spoke with someone who said she didn't see any reason why he wouldn't support the bill.

MBC was sponsoring a petition regarding formula marketing practicies in the hospitals; this affected the perinatal health regulations, and fell under the Public Health Council.

HB-1782 is a bill regarding breastfeeding in public; it's intended to clarify that a mother has a right to breastfeed her child wherever she has the right to be.

Signing the petition is great - but the most important thing you can do is call your representatives. It will make a difference and takes only five minutes - please, please, everyone - CALL!

There's no age limit on this proposed law... (someone was asking that)

Any updates on if they are even in session this Friday????

Hi Everyone,

I just got off the phone with Marsha Walker, of the Massachusetts Breastfeeding Coalition. Apparently, it is House Bill H1782 that needs our support today, not Senate Bill 75. This is what she sent me regarding the bill that will be heard today, from the Statehouse:

Hi Marsha,

After the radio silence, I finally have some news on the breastfeeding bill, with unfortunately short notice. The Judiciary Committee is expected to take action on this bill. They will either report it out favorably for a House vote (what we do want) or put it into study (what we don't want -- bills put in study are seldom resurrected for consideration). Today would be an ideal day to contact House Chairman Eugene O'Flaherty and Senate Chairman Robert Creedon of the Judiciary Committee and urge a favorable report for the bill. It's H1782, An Act to Allow Breastfeeding in Public.

House Chair Eugene O'Flaherty: 617-722-2396
Senate Chair: 617-722-1200

If you get in touch with other advocates who wish to make their voices heard, you can also urge them to contact their state reps. I know your rep is Alice Peisch -- you can feel free to call her, though she definitely knows that this bill is coming up and is supportive. We'd love to have the Chairmen of Judiciary hear from as many breastfeeding supporters as possible today.

Sorry for the short notice, we only just found this out ourselves.

Please take a moment to forward this information

Thank you,
