I prefer LOTR to The Hobbit (although I've read The Hobbit a bazillion times too - but it is, after all, a children's book), and actually really love The Silmarillion too - lovely, lyrical prose. And some great stories. Beren and Luthien, Melian -- much more about Galadriel. And of course, Beleg Strong-Bow. Wow. It can be a bit confusing the first time through the book though, lots of family trees and things (a bit like reading the Old Testament actually ). And one of my favorite short stories of all time is "Leaf by Niggle," another Tolkien work, which is more "modern" in setting. But I digress ....!![]() |
