oh this is such a hard question! i really really really want my answer to be something organic velour and wool, but for lilah it really wasn't. she was a pretty calm baby but man did she HATE to have her diaper changed. so i wanted to do it as quickly as humanly possible and my very favorite diapers ended up being xs/preemie fuzzi bunz for her early days.

that's what I'm going with this time! I had one last time and the rest were prefitteds & very baby AIOs.....I'm sticking with Fuzzibunz from here on out with both my girls.

Right now I am loving size 0 FCB AIO's & XS Very Baby AIO's. For fitteds I love my size 0 FCB's, newborn Mutts and newborn OV Loveybums with knitted wool covers or XS Luxe pull on wool covers.

Covers
Prorap classics

I love both prefolds and xs sandy's for newborns... if I had to pick only one I'd go with indian prefolds. oh and either bummis or ME airflow covers.

I would probably go w/ flats and snappi, and bummis until i got the snappi right, then wool.

I enjoyed using birdseye flatfolds, infant cpf's, kissaluvs 0's are awsome on newborns, and for the last baby I had a mishmash of nb/sm wahm fitteds that I enjoyed immensly. Nb and small Bummis covers are a must Oh and I did like a lambkin wool cover that I got second hand. Lambkin wool covers are underrated IMO.

When I do it again, I'm going for unbleached Indian prefolds and Little Beetles with the snappi closure (a mix of cotton/velour, hemp). And exclusively wool: wraps, soakers, and longies.

: I'm curious about flats on a newborn. I've got more than a dozen flats here and have no idea how to use them (I've tried on DS2 when he was around 8 months and didn't have a clue back then either).

for ds#1 i used the kite fold at 9mos...it wasn't the *best* fold (or the best dipes) but it worked when i had no other diapers. if i had gotten the 30"X30" or even better 32"X32" i would still be using them (once i bought the square ones i started using the oragami fold and it worked great for his solid poos)

I would go with prefolds, and either righteous baby flams(they really are amazing tiny dipes, but my dd grew out of the rise pretty quick), or KHW nb dipes, those fit from birth and for a long time after...maybe 4 months or so?

And hand knit wool, but i make most of my own so it is super cheap. LOL I do mostly pants and shorts to wear as clothing, takes one less step to get them ready.

I think I had one of every kind of diaper for my new babe and hands down, both my mom and I preferred a prefold, pinned or snappied, with a Bummis Super Whisper Wrap cover. I have fitteds, aios, pockets, you name it, hyena wool, hand made, everything, and the prefold and BSWW have never disappointed my and they are surprisingly trim. You just can't beat the adjustability of a prefold for those skinny thighs but chubby bellies.

For the next babe, we will go with this system exclusively until they fit well into our size 1 stash.

For flats we used the origami fold, it worked pretty well. For prefolds we use the jelly roll (I think that's it's name) The one where you roll in the sides to make a gusset.

I used a sz. small for ds since birth (7 lb. 13 oz.)

These are pics of how I folded a flatfold for a newborn as modeled by the fluffy purple bear. They're not too great (really bright diaper)
