JK Rowling's press release re: Harry Potter 7 - Page 2

You did notice that if you read the full article she says two characters will die in the last chapter:
Quote:
"The final chapter is hidden away, although it's now changed very slightly. One character got a reprieve. But I have to say two die that I didn't intend to die,"
So I have a feeling a lot more than two characters will die, really. Because they have to. This is the war to end wars, yk? Lots o' peeps gonna die.

I'll have to go back and read the article again! I totally missed that... yikes!

My guess, right now, is Voldemort and Harry. Yeah, I know it sounds uninspired LOL but that's what I really think.

We are dealing with pure evil here. They don't target extras do they? They go for the main characters. Well, I do."
It sounds like JKR is planning to kill off a couple of additional "main characters," not "extras." I guess the real key is determining who's considered an "extra." It's fair to say that some students' little brother who died from a werewolf bite was an "extra." Ditto on Frank Bryce. Is Percy a "main character" or an "extra?" What about Karkaroff?

Karkaroff died in the last book. I believe I remember Hermione reading something about him being found dead, and someone says something about being suprised that he lasted that long. Gosh, I need to reread the last book!

Yep, Karkaroff died in the sixth book. Well, in between the fifth and sixth. He was killed up north somewhere and the dark mark was found over the shack where his body was found.

Has anyone seen this transcript? It's a show JKR did in England..I thought it was *VERY* telling!!! Here's the whole transcript:

http://www.mugglenet.com/mnnews/0626...randjudy.shtml

This part particularly got me!

R: Listen, all the papers who have been promoting this interview today clearly want us to ask you, "Do you kill off Harry Potter?" It's a ridiculous question because are you likely to say yes or no? I mean, obviously not. You couldn’t possibly answer that but have you ever attempted to do him a little more harm than he’s suffered - I mean in the same way that...

JK: He’s already suffered enough, I mean what...

J: He’s already suffered, he’s been through the mill...

JK: How could I? Every year of his adolescence and childhood he’s saved the wizarding world. And no one believes him, and he...he spends his entire life saving the world, and then next term he’s just back at school being bullied. He's Harry Potter and he's just saved your entire school. And everyone thinks he' just a bit annoying.

I know she goes on about possibly killing him off because she doesn't want a bunch of people to write her hate mail. But I just thought that comment about him already having suffered enough was very telling!!

I'm an HP newbie (I just read all six books in the last 2-3 weeks!), but I think a Weasley has to be killed. I say that mostly becuse of the scene with Molly and the boggart. I think she says something to the affect that given that they are all involved, someone will most likely die. I personally would most like it to be Percy, but Ginny and/or Ron are up for grabs as both are very important to Harry and both will most likely be helping him (despite the Harry/Ginny ending, I still think she'll be there for him). Hagrid is also a close one to Harry - maybe him too?
