Newborn panting?

Anyone else have a panting nb? I'm taking her in to the pede tomorrow JIC, but I'm wondering if it is just normal nb stuff. She's only 11 days old.

Can you count how many times she breathes in 30 seconds and multiply by two? Anything under 70 per minute is considered within the range of normal, but if she's doing more than that, it could be an early sign of infection or other problems.

(Not to be scary, I just happened to know this from our ER experience.)

When she's resting or sleeping, like now, her rate is 40-50. When she's awake, it is between 50-75. Seems like the problem is congestion--she's a little juicy, and I keep suctioning out mega-boogers every morning.

I'm guessing the pede will say she's fine and has normal newborn congestion. Still, I've got a case of new mama paranoia!

In this paper about newborns that Talula's ped gave me, it says that erratic breathing is normal, i.e., slow breathing and then really fast breathing or panting.
