Make an appointment?

when do you make an appointment with a heath car previder?
My last midwife made our 1st app. for 12 weeks. She was a lay/home birth midwife. this time around I have insurence and no cash to pay for a homebirth so we are going to use a free standing birth center... that is if I don't have an oops in our big tub

I made the appointment for July 27th at the birth center. The last time I waited too long and my 1st and 2nd choices were already taken. I think I will be 9 weeks.

If you call them they will take your date of last cycle and give you an appointment at the time they prefer. My former midwives liked to have the first appt. in week 9-10, but I've heard of practices that prefer later.

For my two previous pregnancies my first appointment was at 10 weeks. I am considering homebirth this time and I think 12 weeks is when the first appointment usually is.

I called right away to make an appointment with my midwives and made an appointment for 8 weeks. I think it just depends on the provider. Last time I went around 7 weeks, I think. I'm having a homebirth this time, so using different midwives.

I'd call right away (HAH! Still haven't called anyone. Do as I say not as I do?), and see when they want to see you. It's different for every provider. They can do a lot of emotional and nutritional support early on, and get your baselines, but there isn't that much to do now. I like establishing a relationship early, at least, so I have someone I can call if I want information or support.
