I like 311's version of The Cure's "Love Song".

Yay! I love cover songs too!

Somebody's Baby - Yo La Tengo
Wish You Were Here - Radiohead
Hit me Baby One More Time - Travis
Jolene - The White Stripes
About A Girl - Cibbo Matto
Bohemian Rhapsody - California Guitar Trio
Strutter - The Donnas
Where did You Sleep Last Night - Nirvana

I'll stop there in case you don't like this style of music but there are lots more if you want them.

David Bowie has done some great covers throughout his career. My fav's: See Emily Play (a cover of an old Pink Floyd song), Growin' Up and It's Hard to be a Saint in the City (covers of Bruce Springsteen songs). On the flip side, I love Nirvana's cover of The Man Who Sold the World (a Bowie song, of course).

My fave was a cover of Stravinski's Rite of Spring by Iceburn. I have no idea where I'd find a copy now since it came out pre-mp3 but it was really cool.

Boys of Summer by the Ataris
Baby got Back by Rage Against the Machine

Gin & Juice - Phish (this makes me laugh every time)
Wishin' and Hopin' - Ani Difranco (nice feminist version)
Imagine - A Perfect Circle (a surprisingly good cover of a John Lennon tune)

running up that hill - Placebo (kate bush)

but not tonite - either Scott Weiland or Jimmy Somerville (depeche mode)-its amazing how one song can sound sooooo different. I can listen to all 3 right after the other and it does not feel like the same song.

I like John Mayer's version of "Route 66". It's on the "Cars" movie soundtrack.

OMG, this might be the best song ever. Both versions give me chills everytime I hear them. It's hilarious to me that an Englishman seems to have written the perfect Bluegrass song!!

Oh, I forgot any of Seu Jorge's Bowie covers (most are on the Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou soundtrack). I love this guy's voice and he sings them all in Portuguese.

I am not generally into folk music, but Luka Bloom has a few covers (I think the CD is called Keeper of the Flame) that I really like. He covers LL Cool J's I Need Love, and it's really kind of cool. He also does U2s Bad, a song called Throw Your Arms Around Me that everyone has covered at one point, and To Make You Feel My Love.

Tori Amos singing "Wild Horses."
