I thought I would post a few pictures of our changing area complete w/cloth diapers. I just love spending time there diapering my stuffed tiger. It fills the time that I have to wait to diaper a real babe!

heres one two

Share whatever you have to share about filling your time between now and D-Day!

Your stash is awesome!! Did you make them yourself?

I've been kind of putzing around with my stash, too. I have a basket full of prefolds to get folded up and put away.

Otherwise, I'm just cleaning and putting things away (like my crazy sewing mess on the dining room table!).

Nope. I wish I could make diapers. Sounds like you do, with that sewing comment! The only thing I made are the wipes next to the warmer.

The ones laid out are from left to right: 3 Happy Heineys, 2 Harleyz, 1 SOS, 1 Sugar Peas, and 2 sugar plum baby and 1 muttaquin. Thats only the beginning of the stash! The rest he'll grow into later! I kind of want crazy on the sampling. Watch me totally love pockets and have to sell all my fitteds and prefolds for my addiction!

Wow, that's a lot of covers and prefolds!! I have 18 fuzzibunz, 5 wiggle worm bottom covers (LOVE those), 12 kissaluvs size 0's and 12 CPF's. I actually am worried that I don't have enough. I know that sounds sorta crazy, but it feels like I am going to need to get more really quickly. We shall see! My husband and I are ready to get loads, and basically spend what we would have spent on disposables, just to get what we want this time, so when we have the next baby, there will be no question that we are ready diaper wise.

I am SO BORED!! I should go and put a few things in place with my baby room, but, it's not like outside of diaper changes we are going to use it much for a little while. I just hate not having things like that done and in place, cause who knows if I will feel like organizing on 2 hours of sleep with a baby who wants to nurse nonstop!

I have been diapering my Sully from Monsters Inc. thank you very much. And I couldn't be happier with the way my CPF techniques have been turning out. I think Sully is happy too!

I even had a fun and exciting day yesterday....well fun for me. It was our 4 year anniversary, and we didn't want to go far or spend much, so we went shopping around, went to Ikea (LOVE IKEA!! It's my CHURCH I SWEAR!!! I try to go every Sunday : I know, I know, pity me.) And I bought some art from a local artist who I LOVE (www.juliadams.com check her stuff out, it's really fantastic), and we did a lot of walking and a lot of moving. Then we went to old spaghetti factory, where I had a wonderful dinner, that of course was interuppted by some nice contractions, that resulted in....nothing two hours later. That's okay. It was good all in all.

Sounds like you have enough diapers to start out, Sabbath! My friend who just gave birth 2 weeks ago has 18 fuzzi bunz only and they wash every other day.

I overloaded. I have 2 dozen infant PF's and 1 dozen preemie and I have like 10 NB/Small proraps and 6 dappi pull ons and 2 starbuns fleece, 4 Bummis, 1 Bumkins plus a bunch of wool that I knitted. That not counting all the kissaluvs 1's and muttaquin 3 step rise and wonderoos and fuzzi bunz! I still worry that we're covered.....but I'm an overachiever! :

That artwork is FANTASTIC! Kind of reminds me of the Corpse Bride characters.
And I'm an IKEA whore too. They just opened one in my area last month and it was like Christmas when we stepped in the store last weekend. We have a huge penchant for modern and have only accumulated a few pieces because true modern is so expensive! But with Ikea you can get the style without the $$.
I think we're going to buy a bed from there really soon. I can't wait!

Oh, that artwork sooort of reminded me of this artist on the craft site etsy.com
If I was to have a girl I was going to decorate our designated baby area (hate the term nursery since we're co-sleeping) in these little paintings.

this seller on etsy

I wonder if we are doing ourselves a disservice by diapersing fuzzy stuffed animals. Maybe we're cultivating bad habits! I know my tiger has a tail and the baby won't! :

My bed is from there, my sofa is from there, my entire kitchen is from there, I truly have an ikea obsession. If I sat back and totalled the amount accumulated, I think I would probably cry, but hey, I love my house!! Their baby/kid stuff is actually really awesome and very AP mom friendly too. You must be near the Canton, MI one. My Mom is in Kalamazoo MI and she said that even though it's something like 2 hours away, that it was all over the news when it opened. Did you know that something like a few people (more than one I know that) DIED when they opened one over in Europe? That's just insane!! They stampeded I guess. Weird stuff to do over some furniture.

Yeah, her artwork is awesome. I am a gift and jewelry buyer for some really groovy stores up here in the Seattle area, so I opted to carry her stuff in our stores (her first retail gig!!), so I get it for a pretty good price . My favorite piece, and the one I got first is 'The First Butterfly'. (I think that's what it's called...here, it's this one... http://www.juliadams.com/gallery_html/?show=s1. Oh! She has updated since I have looked last!! I gotta go check this out....) Later!

lotus.blossum-I love, love, love your green walls!

As far as diapers go we have 20 new prefolds, 20 used prefolds-which I actually like more because they are so soft and fluffy, and I've knit over 20 wool diaper covers-8 NB size. All the prefolds have been gifts, and aside from buying some snappis and wool wash-the entire things has cost us about $60 for the yarn. But I've decided to use all the left over yarn for a scarf for myself-so its really a win-win situation. Woot!!!

I think we are going to do disposable for a few days-until the merconium passes-as I hear it stains diapers-and I want to be able to pass them on to other cloth diapering folks.

Does anyone think I need more prefolds, or maybe I should invest in some fitted diapers? UHH the expense of it all!

Yup. We went to the Canton IKEA store. It was crazy mass chaos! We're planning to go back on a weekend morning in hopes to beat the crowd. And to get into the cafe. There was a mile long line!

I love that artwork. Especially Phylls in the Bath. Thats cool that you get a good price on it. Its great to support local artists!

Thanks Ashley! The paint was one of those low VOC Sherwin Williams type and they just happened to have the color I wanted. They had a limited pallette for that paint.

Wow, all those knitted covers!! Thats awesome! I guess I would just suggest that you have some PUL covers like proraps too. Just for the ease of washing.
All my prefolds are bought used. I figured I cut out about 6 washings and saved money to boot! I just stripped them and washed them on hot. I also bought a pack of 7th Generation sposies for the first few days and for trips out till we get this cloth diapering thing down.

As for fitteds and pockets its such an individual thing. Seems like the best ones to try on a budget are kissaluv 0's and Fuzzi Bunz. If you are on livejournal.com they have a great cloth diapering commiunity where things are sold for great prices. Its not much of a loss if you don't like it, just resell it!

I can vouch for resale. You don't lose a lot. I bought a lot of my fuzzibunz used, and it didn't end up saving me to much money. So, I know that the previous owners got most of their money back!! I am an avid knitter, but I never wanted to do diaper covers. I don't know why, I just didn't like the idea. I even have a really great pattern that I am just wrapping up one for my friend due in January. And she loves the wool covers, I just can't get behind them. I will try them once she is born, and I have gotten the diapers down a bit more, but we shall see. I got all of my kissaluv's size 0's used. For about 1/3 of the price, and they are just awesome! And so cute, and tiny too!

I am also doing disp for the first few days, just to get through the meconium (spelling?) staining phase. I know that a lot of people say it's okay, and they don't always stain if you wash correctly, yada yada yada, but I am not gonna take the chance.

Oh, and I had to go back and look at your walls Lotus - cause I love green. That is an awesome color!! Sorta on olivey green apple. It's about the color of my bed spread! I like it a lot.

Is live journal where you both found diapers for resale? I dont have an account-but might make one if thats the only place I can find them

SabbathD-mind if I ask what pattern you used for the diaper covers? I'm looking to try different ones. I found a few on
http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/baby.html#diaper

I dont know why I'm asking-I really need to focus on other projects right now. I think I may be addicted to knitting diaper covers.

I don't have any newborn size dipes...I decided for the work it would be to make them, and the size I expect Little Baby to be (at least 8lbs), I just made a small stash. I have 36 unbleached prefolds, 8 or 9 covers (Very Baby pattern), 6 AIOs (VB pattern), and 6 fitteds (VB pattern). It was so fun to make my diapers!! I'm thinking I'll just use the AIOs for going out, and the fitteds at night (that's what I do for dd, pretty much).

I do have some newborn size covers that I purchased as parts of larger lots on ebay when I was trying to decide what I wanted to use. I have an unopened pack of 'sposies from last time, so we're going to use those first (for the meconium poops), and then we'll be all cloth!! Wheee!!!

I'm way excited about cding my new babe.

Ashley I can tell you what I've used to knit mine.......

The "original soaker pattern" from this site and also these Doodle Pants and This livejournal pattern

I would highly suggest getting an LJ account for the cloth diapering forum but you can just as easily find good used diapers here at the Trading Post.

Sheri- have any pictures of your stash? I love seeing peoples homemade diapers. I would really like to get into it but I need a better quality sewing machine first. Mine is really novice and I've had the hardest time just trying to sew recycled longies out of sweaters. I can't imagine it would sew layers of materials.

Ashtree - I can't seem to get the link to pull up again, but I have a copy of it saved in word. I will PM it to you now!

Thanks lotus.blossum and SabbathD for the soaker patterns. I really like the doodle bottoms one! Im getting out the debit card now

I've never posted pics here before, but I do have some on photobucket...let me see if I can figure it out.

This one is a half and half AIO I made (two pieces of PUL sewn together first):

Here are some of my AIO's:

Some covers:

Some fitteds:

I didn't think diaper making would become such a fun hobby, but it gets really addicting. I'd love to get some fancy print PUL for my AIOs, or experiment with different fabrics for my soakers and inside my AIOs.

Oooh, those are so cute, Sheri! I especially love the stars!
I'm going to have to find a way to make dipes. Must be soooo satisfying knowing that you made those!

Those are so cute!!! Before my daughter was born, a stuffed Winnie the Pooh bore the brunt of my "practice." =)
