Any Wheel of Time fans here?

I don't remember seeing a thread about this. I just saw this on one of the fan sites:

http://www.tor.com/jordan/

It's dated March, so I am apparently way out of the loop. But Robert Jordan has been diagnosed with amyloidosis, a rare blood disorder. He has undergone blood marrow and chemo treatments and if treatment goes well, he has a median life expectancy of 6 years.

I'm in a bit of shock from this news. I have been a fan of him and the WOT books for 10 years now. He says he intends on surpassing the life expectancy to live at least 30 more years to finish all the books he currently plans on writing, because it will take that long. I hope he does it- I love his books!

Yes - I found the TOR release in early April I think. I really hope he is doing well, but haven't heard/seen anything since then about how he's doing. I don't frequent the official fansites for him, but they may have more information (there was a thread at one that he'd answer questions for, and last time I looked was right after the press release and there were lots of questions/support/advice directed his way in terms of his treatment etc.).... I don't remember which site it was - the "big" one I think. Not too helpful with that, sorry.

I love the WoT series, too. A friend turned me on to them about 4 years ago - I don't like most fantasy (love Tolkien and very little else stacks up against him IMO) -- but my friend kept bugging me to at least read the first book, so I did and WOW. Very good books, fun reading, and so complex (the backstories! the intrigue!) .... btw I've figured out who Setalle Anan is, if you want to know.

He has a blog on dragonmount.com. The most recent post was June:

You'll have to tell me what you know of Setalle Anan. I have an idea of who she may be, but no one specific. Tell, tell!!

There is a list of moms in finding your tribe (I THINK). I was on the list but I can't search for it for you, (sorry). I hadn't heard about his disease. That is really horrible to hear. I have also read some of his other books from his psuedonym about early American pioneers. LUSTY, but good!

I posted in the FYT thread when it first got started, but I didn't want to dig deep for it to post this, since the search function isn't working! It's been awhile since that thread was active. Do you know the names of the books about the pioneers? I'd be interested in reading them.

Yes, that's the blog. Thanks for sharing the link - I hadn't checked in since the first few posts after RJ shared his diagnosis with the fans.

So -- what do we know of Setalle Anan?
1. She is not a native of Ebou Dar.
2. She arrived there around 25 years ago.
3. Several Aes Sedai have felt like they should "know" her but she doesn't "look right."
4. We know she knows more than she should about Aes Sedai, as a woman who doesn't channel.
5. We know she has commented on her husband "rescuing" her.
6. We know she has an affinity and curiousity for ter'angreal (witness how her hands tremble while she holds Mat's medallion).

....You know all this, right? So, yes, we know she's an Aes Sedai who survived being stilled. I used to think maybe she was Tamra Ospenya, not actually killed but stilled instead.

BUT ..... p.72-3 of the paperback for POD ("Unweaving" is the chapter it's in) - Vandene talks to Elayne and warns her about handling ter'angreal -- tells her about Martine Jenara, the last Aes Sedai who specialized in them, and how she was found accidentally stilled in her office, no idea which ter'angreal did it, about 25 years ago and disappeared shortly afterwards. She had been an Aes Sedai for 40 years.

It all matches up, doesn't it?? I figured it out after she handled Mat's medallion, everything clicked.

I really thought there was some importance to Setalle from the beginning - and I think she's going to be pivotal in the next book.

Edited to add -
I'm a total nerd about this. I downloaded the WOT character glossary that sidsaddle had on the internet about 3 years ago, it listed every character, inn, ter'angreal in the first six or seven books -- and have maintained my own version since then (well, the updating is a work in progress ) .... Which is good, because she's taken that glossary of characters down.

Wow! I am impressed. I hadn't even thought about that. I had gotten as far as Aes Sedai, stilled or burned. But Martine Jenara makes a lot of sense. Good for you for keeping up a glossary. Every time I re-read the series, I think, this time I'm going to write down all the characters, etc. But the task seems so daunting that I quickly decide not to. You can't let a single sentence go by unnoticed! When I do decide to re-read it, you may get some PMs from me! Any chance I could snag a copy of that glossary?

Well, right now it's written on top of her entries in my own short-hand. I started typing it into an Excel file awhile ago, in hopes of eventually having an updated version that was printable ... but I am only a few pages in (and it's probably 80 pages or so ) - so at this point I'll be lucky if I get it completed before the final book comes out!!

But yes, let me know next time you reread - I may have more done. We'll see. right now my projects are mostly in the "must get this completed before baby #2 arrives" -- sewing, organizing, shifting of stuff around the house type projects. And if #2 is anything like his/her older sister - I'll spend most of the first year in survival mode with a refluxer/allergic babe again, and everything else will be on hold. ....
