Luau crafts

My daughter is having a luau-themed party for her 5th birthday. We decided it would be fun to make the decorations together and have been busy doing so. We have a vase of coffee filter flowers and paper bag pineapples for centerpieces. We painted palm trees and ocean animals on large sheets of paper and cut them out to decorate our walls. We have a "let's luau" banner. She drew hula girls and decorated them with beads for leis, strips of green construction paper for grass skirts and stamped flowers in their hair. The kids at the party are going to decorate picture frames with shells and we made a sample which will display a picture of DD wearing a grass skirt.

We are in the process of making paper lanterns and paper fans and after that I have run out of ideas! My DD wants to keep making more. Anybody have any cute ideas? We're having a lot of fun together!

Are you looking for crafts for children to do at the party, or more decorations?

Have you figured out food yet? One great one is an "edible aquarium" where you set blue Jello in a clear glass or clear plastic cup, and then when the gelatin is partially set, insert swedish fish or other edible "aquarium" contents. Those could be fun to make.

Also here are a few other crafts:

- Little clothespin hula dancers which you might also make into magnets:
- Lei made from construction paper and plastic drinking straws which is very easy. My daughter made these last year for the preschool luau.
