Financial question

Has anyone registered their homeschool as a non-profit? Do you know what the hassle would be if you purchased supplies and then donated those to your non-profit school for a tax write-off?

My masters is in non-profit management, and I cannot think of or find a reason not to do this. I just wonder if anyone else has done it.

From http://www.irs.gov/charities/charita...=96099,00.html:
"The organization must not be organized or operated for the benefit of private interests, such as the creator or the creator's family, shareholders of the organization, other designated individuals, or persons controlled directly or indirectly by such private interests."
