What happened at your last OB/MW appointment? - Page 2

I had a midwife appt this afternoon. She came to my house this time (we alternate between here and her office). I'm 34w4d and measuring right on. I'm up a total of about 25 lbs. I gained 2 lbs in the last 2.5 weeks, but really, my feet are so swollen, I could easily be carrying an extra 2 lbs right there. Speaking of which I look like I have old lady feet. They are grossly puffy. And they HURT! Ugh.

My bp was good (106/70) but actually a little higher than usual. The baby's heart rate was in the 140's (usually 140/150's). Her head is firmly lodged way down in my pelvis, which besides the much more frequent bathroom trips, makes me very happy. In my last 3, the baby stayed high well into labor. Which is one of the reasons my labors took so freaking long. My chiro says I'm much better aligned this time compared to last (I didn't start seeing her until pretty close to the end). I'm hoping all this means for an easier and shorter labor!

I see her again in 2 weeks at her office. I'm still debating on the GBS. I'm very conflicted.

Other than that, I've got my supplies ordered and the birthing pool just came today (I'm using a kiddie pool). I just need to get this house in shape (and get a few more things) and I'll be all set!

I can't believe I'll be considered term in 2.5 weeks! ACK! I delivered all mine a bit early, the last one at 37w5d, so I'm really hoping for a repeat! :

That really sucks... We lost our midwife about 6 weeks ago and it really sucks

Had an appointment today and we do our own blood pressure (I have really bad whitecoat hypertension) and weight at home. Dr does the urine which was fine and today she discussed if I wanted the vitamin K shot and eye ointment, I was a bit taken back as I didn't expect a Dr to be asking me my opinion. Overall a very routine uneventful visit (which is how I like them), though I do really miss the long talks with my midwife that covered every topic imaginable

Okay it's fun to read everyone's going ons at their appts. Believe it or not I am still at the every 3 weeks stage of having appts so I have nothing too interesting to update until next week.

So I'll lurk here until then

Normal BP (don't remember exactly what it was tho because it's always been normal)
Fundal Height Measuring 28 weeks (I'm 32 weeks)
We'll be getting birth tub at the next visit!

MW says judging by my measurements being similar to last time it looks like I'll be having another micro peanut (DD was 4lbs 12oz at term birth but perfectly healthy otherwise, just tiny) So time to invest in some preemie boy clothes and some extra preemie prefolds! I'm upping my protein intake again to try to bulk him up as much as possible the next 7 weeks. We'll be trying hard to get him up to 6 lbs before he comes. Wish us luck!

We always have the opposite problem; half the newborn clothes are too small! And I'm always sad about that because they're so cute.
I hope his birthweight is a little bit higher for you this time. Eat up that protein and heap on the pasta!

Besides the awful hospital charade I posted under the July chit chat thread, I haven't had a normal OB appt since 26 weeks, but I have one at 36 weeks, when I get back and we have another ultrasound scheduled to check and see if the little guy's placenta has gotten out of his way and risen up. (At 20 weeks the ultrasound indicated that it was lying pretty low). Until then I can just wait and hope and pray that the little guy is still doing good. He seems to be, he NEVER stops moving.

Well I had my 34 wk check up today. Everything is still ok. We agreed to do another 24 hr urine just to check to see how it's doing. I showed her my birth plan and she was ok with it all. Yay!!! I was really worried about some of the parts but she was fine with it all. Next week they want to do the GBS culture. She's going on vacation for the next 2 wks so she told me I couldn't go into labor because she didn't want to miss my birth I told her I'd see what I could do. Now that I've almost made it to 35 wks, I feel more confident about making it further. Especially since my bp is behaving this time. I feel wierd though because in a few days I'll be more pg than I ever have been before.

I had a nice 33 week +4 appt. this morning. My blood sugar was down and my iron was up (both were a bit of a concern), so my supplements and MUCH improved eating habits seem to be working (phew!). My DH is 6'3", so I don't need any help for a bigger baby!

BP was fine, haven't been gaining weight because I drastically cut back on sugar and white carbs, so actually lost a little weigh. Measuring at 33-1/2 though, so baby is still growing. Baby is head down and heartbeat is good

Midwife is coming to our place in 2 weeks for a home visit...we'd better get cleaning!

Nice to hear what is going on with everyone!

--NewAtThis-- sorry to hear about your MW. We plan to pay out of pocket for the birth, but hope that most of our pre-natal appts. are covered.

I had a nice appointment yesterday afternoon, 33 weeks by my dates, 32 +4 by my ob's. I don't care what he says in terms of dates, and he's not a 2 weeks past due date induction person so it really doesn't much matter. He doesn't do fundal measurement and I haven't had a u/s since my 20 week one.

Babe is firmly head down, but I'm carrying a bit high so I'm worried he can still flip. I think he may be sunny side up though, based on where his heart is. I've gained 31 lbs, which I consider perfect for me (I gained a total of 35 lbs with DD and lost it all easily. It was all baby, I just gain a lot).

I will have GBS again probably two appointments from now. Fingers crossed it's negative this time! DH made me promise I wouldn't do the garlic thing or any other natural remedy, he's worried that I'll just mask a true infection and put the babe at risk. He's so good about all my other weird crunchy stuff...I'm giving him this one. Even if I'm positive, my ob only does the IV if my water is broken for over 18 hours or if I have complications. So I'm not too terribly worried.

That's so funny, my GBS is Monday and dh just *reminded* me to do the garlic thing

I had my 36 yesterday and I think I gained 5lbs from the 34 week appointment (whoopsie) so I think I really need to cut down on the white foods. Measuring 36cm and heart rate good (forgot the numbers). Had the GPS and hope that I pass.

We reviewed the birth plan with our OB and he thought that pretty much everything looked good.

I can't believe this little one is coming soon! Today is my last day at work before going on maternity leave. I'm so excited! I really need to catch up on my rest and baby book reading.

Week 34, visit 10. Not long now!
I had been keeping a list of all the questions and issues I had, and it got kind of lengthy. The office was running way behind today (why does that always happen on Fridays?), so it was a good hour after my appt time when the doc finally walked into the exam room. I go to a collaborative practice with 10 mws and 6 obs, and have tried to see different practicioners every time I go, but the doc on duty today was one I've had two appts with before (and that's fine - I like her!). Well, I pulled out my list, and her eyes got about this big
- I assured her I wouldn't keep her that long. She's there to answer my questions, right?? Long story short:

Edd: 8/18/06 (34 wks)
Wt: 201 (up 2 lbs)
BP: 120/70 (up from norm 110/60)
Fundal Ht: 33
Position: occipital posterior (but man, does he roll around!)
FHR: 140

I told her about my recent advent of menstrual-like cramping and infrequent back pain ... it's possible that I'm in the early (like, EARLY) stage of labor. I'm acutely aware of my cervix, in a way I never was before and she told me I should keep close track of these pains and if I have them twice an hour for 8 hours, to come in and be examined. So far they're not rhythmic or regular at all.

It sounds ridiculous, but man, I'm so ready to go! I'm trying to savor these last few weeks of me-time, quiet time, and that 'special preggo feeling', but honestly, I just want to meet him and start the journey! And sleep on my stomach again. :

HI! I had my 36 week check up today.

What fun! I did the GBS test on myself. For some reason, I thought she would do it.

I have gained 31 pounds -- up 4 pounds from two weeks ago. Wow.

Baby is head down for the first time.

I can now have the baby at home -- YAY!

We are still working on finding the perfect formula recipe. I can't breast feed b/c I had breast surgery many years ago. We are working on a variation of the Weston Price formula. If anyone has suggestions, let me know.

Do you have health insurance? Maybe you could get help covering the cost of donor breastmilk instead, at least for part of baby's feedings.

Ursala Rose, have you thought about goats milk? I had bad ppd after dd was born and she just wasn't gaining. We ened up supplementing her with goats milk. Dr Sears has a goats milk formula receipe http://www.askdrsears.com/html/3/t032401.asp

I used a goat milk concoction (aka homemade formula) on occasion with my second child to alleviate some of the pressures of APing -- i couldn't pump enough milk for a feeding and the exhaustion of being the 24-7 dairy bar was more than i could handle the first time around. I hate the smell of commercial formula so I was thrilled to find an alternative.

We only fed her about 5-10 ounces a month though so I don't know how it would be to use it as the onlysource of nutrition. But i have been WIDELY criticized on these boards for using it, though I totally stand by it. Nothing like a healthy dose of judgement :

Let's see, my last appt. was Thursday. I go 2x a week since I have GD....on Monday's I have an U/S to check fluid and an NST, on Thursday's just an NST. So, here's my stats....I'm up about 28-29 lbs, bp was good (can't remember what it was exactly, lol). I'm measuring big - 41 weeks at 36w2days, but that is because I have higher fluid levels AND a bigger baby from the GD (she was approx. 6 lbs 11 oz on Monday). We discussed induction (again because of the GD, they won't let me go over my due date). I'd love for baby to come early, like all my others did, but I'm worried because this pg has been SO different from my others that it won't happen that way, lol. Anyways, induction is scheduled for July 27th, I'll be 39w2 days at that point. Can't believe this pg is just about over!!

thanks for the formula ideas everyone.

donor breast milk is an interesting idea.

right now, my dh is obsessed with perfecting a goat's milk concoction based on the weston-price foundation formula. i think that's where we're headed. it's shocking how there are basically NO options for the health obsessed moms who can not breast feed.

I've learned a lot about donor milk via an acquaintance who lives nearby. She's always trying to spread the word about donor milk, and recently started a website to help mothers who are interested. Here's some info in care you are interested.

I wanted to remind everyone of our informational website designed to educate the public about safe ways to engage in private breastmilk donation. We have created a Yahoo goup to connect mothers who have milk with mothers in need of milk. We will be further developing our site over coming months, but our Yahoo group is 50+ members large already after just 3 months. There is a susbstantial need for milk!

If you are working with mothers that have extra milk or have situations that require additional breastmilk (breast surgery, mastectomy, multiples, adoption, etc.), please share this site with them. Also feel free to forward to any other realted e-mail groups and help us get the word out to the right population.

Yahoo Group: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/MilkShare/

Thanks!
Kelley

P.S. Our youngest son, Loren, has received nearly 10,000 ounces of milk. That, coupled with the nearly 20% that I have been fortunate to make myself, has nourished him in such a wonderful way and we are ever so grateful to the nearly 30 women that contributed to his health during this first year of his life! He has been 100% fed at the breast thanks to Lact-aid, so please spread the word about this noteworthy product also! www.lact-aid.com "
