my almost 6 yo ds is a toe-walker

I'm afraid to take him to the doctor because I'm sure they'll probably make him see a pt & with the new baby, it's ONE MORE THING to drive me insane!

Anyone else have a toe-walker?

Should I be concerned?

My friend's DS is a toe walker (also 6). Their ped is concerned because the achiles tendon doesn't grow correcly and if it continues he may need surgery to lengthen the tendon. They are doing stretches with him everyday and also a constant reminder (flat feet). If it were my child I would have it checked out ASAP. Good luck.

My nephew was a toe-walker because of his CP and it took a lot of PT to get him to correct it. Like kirstenb3 said, it can need surgery to fix later on.

Thanks guys. I guess I'll give the ped a call soon.

There's a thread over on "special needs" about this:

I was a toe walker during childhood, it resulted (or was the cause of) in my calf muscle being too short. I needed surgery on both my legs to lengthen the muscle and to this day still get very stiff calf muscles (as well as very formed calf muscles which are embarrasing).
I would defenetly get my child checked
