My dd is ready for a writing curriculum (1-2 grade level) and I would like to know what you all are using. We are trying to pay off debt so I need something that is relatively inexpensive, but still effective. Any suggestions? How is Writing Strands for your 5-6-7 year old?

Writing curriculum and Writing Strands?

I wasn't impressed with Writing Strands. I thought it wasn't particularly creative and for me it would kill the joy pretty fast.
If you want cheap and fun I'd just encourage writing - letters to Grandma, a journal, a newspaper for her cat, stories, poems, recipes, etc. Peggy Kaye has a good book too. What I think is most important is that you keep it fun and avoid anxiety developing around writing. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/037...lance&n=283155

Hey USAmma, what kind of curriculum are you looking for? My daughter just used workbooks we found at the dollar store and sheets we printed off education websites. She writes cards to her friends and signs for games she and her brother invent. At 8 years old that is pretty much the extent of her patience for handwriting.
