Probiotics for a dog?

My "dog sister" Daisy is 14 years old and has bladder cancer. My parents can't afford the surgery that might or might not work, so they are basically providing "hospice" care until she is unable to enjoy life. As it is she is not in pain but urinating takes a long time (the tumor is in her urethra and partially blocks it) and she gets recurrent bladder infections so she is on heavy-duty antibiotics almost ALL the time - as well as some other medication that my parents call the "cancer drug" but I have NO idea what it is. (I'm sure it's not doggie chemo!)

Anyway, poor Daisy hardly has an appetite anymore although otherwise you wouldn't know she's sick...she's tired more often, but seems relatively content. I got the idea that maybe her tummy troubles are partially due to the antibiotics. So my mom has started giving her yogurt daily for the probiotic effect.

Would this be enough to do anything? Would probiotic capsules intended for humans be OK for a dog? I don't know if the dog gut needs the same bacteria as the human gut.

Anyone have an opinion/information/advice? Poor Daisy, I just want to do something for her.

Poor girl. Yogurt really won't be enough. I'd go to Whole Foods and get her some Bio-K. It has the most live cultures of any of the probiotics. They're about $5 each but you can get a whole pack for less per bottle.

p.s. Yes, they're okay for dogs. I know a lot of people who give them to both their cats and dogs.

Thanks! Good to know that it's OK for her. I'll look for the Bio-K.
