Who has a 3 yo with glasses?

We took ds2 to the eye doctor today to have his cross-eye examined. Turns out, he's really far-sighted and that's what's causing the lazy eye. So...glasses!

Anyone else have a 3 yo with glasses?

How hard is it going to be to get him to wear them all.day.long?

My son was 4. He was pretty easy. I don't think glasses have the stigma at that age. Do you or another family member wear glasses? Both of my boys were excited to wear glasses because they could be more like daddy!

nak -- yup! dd (now 34 mos.) has been wearing them EVERYday since 13 mos! Same reason as yours ... it's caalled accomodative esotropia. She's even patched before. There's no comparison for the "at first" stage because she was so much younger, but at this age it might be easier because your dcwill be able to understand how glasses help to see. GL and feel free to pm me and look at pix of my cutie dd in her glasses (link on Sarah's name in siggie)

I'm with mamazig - my DS has been wearing glasses since he was 11 months. Be prepared for them to be broken several times at first (so if they don't come with a warranty, buy one - it's definitely worth a little extra money). We didn't push wearing the glasses all the time at first, just put them on for a couple of minutes a day and gradually increased the time from there. With your DC being older, it might actually be easier, because they can see that it does help them and therefore have more incentive to keep the glasses on. You might want to consider Croakies (the cloth things that go on the ends of the glasses to keep them around your neck).

We're getting the really flexible ones with a 2 yr warrantee. I'm not taking any chances!

Croakies sound like a good idea, too. He's so actie & likes to bounce around. I'm afraid they'll fall off if I don't strap them on.

I'm amazed at how well they stay on -- even w/out the wraparounds or croakies -- we tried both when she was younger and they seemed to make it worse...when she'd throw a fit and try to yank them off, she'd wind up breaking them because they were "caught" -- now they fly freely -- hee!! thank goodness for plastic! well, in this case, anyway...

Kaylee was three years old when she got her glasses. Like your son, she was crossing her eyes. We got her the "flexon" or something like that...you can bend them around a lot without harming them. Keithen was almost 5.5 years when he got his. Ruby appears to see fine without glasses.

Amazingly...it may be very EASY to keep them ON him and actually HARD to get them OFF him for bedtime or bathtime. I've heard that many young kids are like this because when they get glasses THEY CAN FINALLY SEE! When Kaylee first got hers, she would get upset at me for taking them off her to get her dressed!

It may go a lot easier than you think. Make sure you have one set place that they go at night so that they can always be found in the morning right away.

Our dd was diagnosed at 12 months old with accommodative esotopia. She is very farsighted and was crossing. She's been in glasses ever since. She is 3 years old now and doing great. No crossing WITH glasses and so far, no patching. She loves her glasses and looks so cute with them on!

i got mine when i was 2ish.... i had to patch too.... my mom put one on my "my buddy" so i'd have someone else wearing them too

My son got his glasses at 3 or 4 - he wore them easily, but went to daycare at that time, so they got lost, thrown away with the lunch tray, stepped on at the playground, etc. If you can get a warranty, do it!

As an update, Aiden is doing really well with his glasses! We got the kind that are really flexible so that he wouldn't destroy them quickly. Even still, those have taken quite a beating and we're always losing screws!

Regardless, he is really good at putting them on in the morning without us asking & treating them like just a normal part of his body.

My 3.5 yo has had glasses for about a month. They have come SO far with kids frames since I was a kid! His frames are also the super bendable metal type. We have to remind him to put them on, but once they are on he usually leaves them alone. Our Eye Dr does a 2 week re-check and said there was a huge improvement in his depth perception and vision. She said that the fact that he kept the glasses on is a good sign. If he was fighting it she would be concerned about the prescription being off.
