TMI but majorly stuck

Clogged, backed up, TOTALLY constipated :

At this point I'm feeling like things are so packed down there that I'm afraid the baby can't come out due to all this poop. Seriously, it's ridiculous.

My diet is fine re: fiber and water. I am still eating my daily double bowl of All Bran, which up until about 3 days ago, worked very well, and drinking over 100 oz of water a day.

What can I take that won't irritate the baby's bowels too? I was thinking MOM since that just softens things up.... just really really don't want meconium in my AF....

Any suggestions?

I have been taking Sodium Ascorbate (Vit C powder http://www.vitaglo.com/760.html ) in higher doses and it keeps my bowels moving really well, plus probiotics as well.

Prune juice. That seems to help me out.

i would suggest upping your vitamin c intake, plus probiotics as well. i know it sucks, but like you mention, i would probably err on the side of caution as far as taking anything that might start moving baby's bowels, too. and i don't know about you, but for me, once labor starts, my system does a pretty good clean-out in preparation for passing a baby! so i wouldn't really worry on that front. (oh - also, i'm intolerant to milk, so when things get really stuck, i'll drink a glass of milk.) i'll search my brain for what else i'd try ... i hope you find something that works for you soon!

good luck, mama!

i had a long weekend trip last Dec and i didn't poop for almost 4 days (i'm a daily) and i had been drinking so much water, exercising etc that i didn't understand why. my dh had me drink 2 tblspoons of vegetable oil followed by a glass of water. an hour later i was a literally a happy camper

i don't know if it would effect baby's bowels at this point.

I have used something that won't effect the baby at all. You go to the drugstore and buy Fleet Enema. You inject the solution (in your rectum) and it produces a bowel movement very quickly. It works like a charm - I swear!!! It sounds gross and seems like the last thing you want to do, but when you do it and it works you'll never go back to being compacted again

Jumping in from June to suggest a calcium/magnesium supplement, it's good for you, good for the baby, and will help those muscles work.

I though calcium was constipating???

If you're really backed up, an enema might be a good idea. One step before that would be suppositories. You can get either @ a pharmacy, Target, etc.

Sour Cream always gets things moving for me. I pretty much have to eat it while sitting on the toilet though

Ok good ideas here! Thanks ladies!

Are you sure you're constipated? My babe is pressing on my rectum so it's not easy to poop, but when I finally do it's still soft and normal, so I know it's not true constipation. I always get diarrhea when labor starts so I'm not worried about that, but boy, I'm starting to remember that awful rectal pressure that accompanies the end of labor.:

Definitely feeling the rectal pressure too, no doubt about it. But unfortunately "soft and normal" has not been my experience as of late

I'm sort of hoping for a bout of diarrhea before labor starts. I'd really rather not poop in the pool
