Fox News: CDC says children need Hep A vax

Wow! I just watched a segment on Fox News about Hepatitis A. It went on and on about how illegal immigrants are bringing tons of Hep A (as well as malaria, tuberculosis, and leprosy!!) to our border states. So the CDC now says we should ALL vaccinate our babies for Hepatitis A.

"If you have a young child, a toddler, you probably will be asked to have your child vaccinated when you go to the pediatrician's office." -Anthony Fiore, CDC

From the show: "Until now, Hepatitis A was once considered a concern only in underdeveloped countries, and the vaccine mostly given in border states with high infection rates. Now, health experts say every American child should be vaccinated, regardless of where they live."

Yikes. It never ends, does it?

I grew up right on the border and during my whole childhood, I only knew of one child who caught Hep A. I've also known a whole lot of sex workers who don't use protection, I've never known one of them to catch Hep A (no I'm not mixing that up with Hep B). The only reason we need to get this vax now is because they have one.

The Hep A universal recommendation was made back in October 2005.

I'm assuming the CDC an pharma are not getting the response they desire for the Hep A vaccine, so we'll be seeing more "promotional" segments in the next few days/weeks.

How do you even catch Hep A? I don't even know anything about it. I kind of thought maybe it was the kind you get from food.

HAV is acquired by mouth (through fecal-oral transmission) and replicates in the liver. After 10–12 days, virus is present in blood and is excreted via the biliary system into the feces. Peak titers occur during the 2 weeks before onset of illness. Although virus is present in serum, its concentration is several orders of magnitude less than in feces. Virus excretion begins to decline at the onset of clinical illness, and has decreased significantly by 7–10 days after onset of symptoms. Most infected persons no longer excrete virus in the feces by the third week of illness. Children may excrete virus longer than adults.

It's glorified food poisoning. Once you've had it, you can't get it again. Seventy percent (70%) of children are asymptomatic. It's not a chronic disease.

The likelihood of symptomatic illness from HAV infection is directly related to age. In children younger than 6 years of age, most (70%) infections are asymptomatic. In older children and adults, infection is usually symptomatic, with jaundice occurring in more than 70% of patients. HAV infection occasionally produces fulminant hepatitis A.

Sounds like it is just our government blaming all evils on illegal immigrants again. and legal immigrants. Ok, mostly anyone who is Mexican or South American. And parts of the carribean.

I mean, first convince'"us" that "they" steal "our" jobs. Now the gov't wants to convinve "us"that "they are disease carrying thieves, etc. Just my opinion....I am so ashamed of what are government has done...It is amazing all this came out when census figures showed tha tthe white males will no longer be the majority in this country soon and "hispanic" (broad category btw) will be. You know the irony is the the George Bush in line for politics is Brown skinned of Partially Mexican heritage (yes, GWB SIL is a Mexican immigrant!)

Yes, I feel the Hep. A is part of the big plan...

The author of the Hep A bill sitting in the NY legislature is using this rationale to mandate the vaccine for school entry.
