Now that we have *finally* sold our house, we can actually talk about our finances without plugging up both ears and yelling "Na na naaaaaaaaaa!" It took a full year to sell our house - 10 months of it without the housing allowance that paid the mortgage.
So now that we're looking at our finances, we see that we are in deep doo doo. We aren't making enough to cover the minimum payments on the credit cards and medical bills.
I'm taking on extra work for the Fall, and that will help in the long run. But I'm not sure what we should do *now*. We have found a Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University to attend, and that starts next month. We've read the book Total Money Makeover, and we're sitting down this weekend to hash out a real budget.
We're thinking about going with a debt consolidation program. Does anyone have any tips/warnings about these? I've heard mixed things already. Our credit ratings are already in the gutter. I don't really care about debt consolidation affecting our credit. I just want to know if it's worth looking into.
