I found a rottweiler!

Now what do I do with her?! She was hanging out in our alley chatting it up with Blaze. She's a few years old, a giant sweetie but no one in the area seems to know where she came from.

And she looks like she's nursing puppies! I've called everything from the humane society to the spca to all the vets in the area to let them know I've got her. But I can't keep her! My dh will kill me!! Plus I'm afraid to put her with my dog. She's twice Blazey's size.

Right now I have her in the neighbors back yard but she can't stay there. The SPCA will take her, on *reservation* but we can't do it today and tomorrow they aren't open.

Crap.

She nearly got hit by a jeep suv speedin' down our street. They locked up their brakes, skidded sideways and BARELY missed her before I got a leash on her and tied her up here..I'm afraid she will get hit if I let her go.

Why can't I just let em wander on by? I get myself into so much trouble, I swear..

She's a big ol' lovey bear! I can't believe no one's come looking for her yet! I hope no one's dumped her.

Oh, geez. That's my nightmare.

Is she filling up with milk (which would mean young puppies who will die without her) or is she just loose and floppy down there (meaning puppies are at least a few weeks old and can survive)?

Also, check for tatoos, inside of each ear and along her flank. Is she well filled out? Nursing pups will take a major toll on a dog not in good care, so that would be a clue to whether she's got a home or not. If you can't find tats, feel the area between her shoulder blades to see if you can feel a tiny little chip, I can't feel my guys chips but I know lots of dogs where you can feel the chip, can you take her into the vet's just to have her scanned?

Another option....it may not work with a breed as popular as rotties but phone a couple rottie breeders in your area and ask if they know anyone who's welped a litter recently. They make think you're a little nuts but especially if she's filling with milk, most will appreciate the forward thinking-I know I would. They may be able to help you with finding someone or at least they may know of a local rottie rescue that will take her until her owners are found.
Is she wearing a collar?

Yay!! She's gone home

I had just thrown on my shoes to go see a neighbor who does rescue, I stepped out the door and saw a man carrying a leash. I asked him "Are you missing a dog?" and he said yes, a rottweiler. The goofy old lady across the alley had directed him to me! (She loves to chat! And loves her little dog, who barks too much because 'we got him fixed before he ever got any'.

Yay! Turns out he was actually lived at one of the houses I'd walked her to on the street behind us, but there were some workers there who didn't understand when I asked if she lived there. He said they'd left the door open and out she went. He was so thankful I'd kept her safe.

She had one puppy at home. She was loose and floppy, not filled up. She was nice and filled out and was *very* lovable. So she was going back home to a caring home.

I'm really shocked though at how many neighbors don't recognize a furry kid that lives near them.

Hopefully he'll take her home and get her a collar and a TAG!

Oh. And her name was Vicky. What a lovebug! I hope I don't see her again.. (But if I do I know just where to return her to!)

Thanks for all your suggestions. I'm holding on to them for next time I run across a lost furry kidlet!

Oh that's good news, she probably isn't wearing a collar because of her pup--I know we remove collars so puppy teeth don't get hurt.
