Willows Birth Story and Pics

I want to preface this story by letting everyone know about my first birth. Cadence was an induction at 41 weeks. I had made no progress. I was induced with pitocin with cervix high, hard and closed and I was complete 4 hours later with a 1/2 hour pushing stage.

On July eighth I woke up again to a little bloody show and irregular contactions but was not too excited because I'd been having show/contrax. for several days. The day went on as usual and I crashed early. I woke up at 12:48 and to pee. When I laid back down about 5 mins later I had a really wicked contraction. I thought it was just gas so I tried to fall asleep, but then had 2 more about 3 mins apart. I woke up dh and asked him to sit with me while I took a shower and he timed my contractions. Sure enough they were 3 mins apart lasting about 1 minute and were painful. We called the midwife right away because she lives an hour and a half away.

The contractions continued and my sister, dh, and I passed the time eating fresh watermelon and telling yo mama jokes. The laughing kept me in a good mood and helped open me up. I would get on my hands and knees on the birth ball while I was contracting which felt awesome.

I was waiting for Margarett to get to the house before I started blowing up the pool but my contractions were hitting me hard and I asked dh to start setting up. I decided to check myself at this point and I could feel the water bag bulging. It was about 2:30 at this point.

I got into the pool as it was filling up and the contractions became very intense. I started to shake and feel sick. I was freaking out inside of my head, wanting it to stop, thinking I couldn't so it anymore. I knew I was in transition and kept trying to remind myself that it wouldn't be long.

Suddenly I felt like I had to use the bathroom. Logically I knew it was Willow ready to be born but I figured I might as well try. Dh helped me out of the pool and I sat on the toilet which felt awesome, relieved a lot of pressure but I def. didn't have to go to the bathroom. I stood up to get back in the pool and could feel her head coming down. I told dh to call midwife and see where she was as the baby was coming soon. I got into the tub on my hands and knees and felt her descend some more. I told dh to put down the phone and get in the pool - "she's coming - RIGHT NOW!" He got in and I pushed one time and my water broke, then I felt her crown. I screamed - not because it burned or hurt so much but more the release of all of the pressure. I stopped pushing and tried to bear down a little and I felt her head slowly start to emerge - little did I know that her little fist was curled up next to her cheek. At that moment my midwife ran in the room and the rest of Willows body slipped into my dh's arms. I was fortunate to have no tearing or damage to my perineum whatsoever. It was 3:15 - about 2 hours from when my contractions started! Dh passed her between my legs and I held her in the water.

All the screaming woke up Cadence and she came in to see what all the comotion was about. We got her naked and she got into the pool with us and Willow just floated in the water and looked around. It was awesome!

Midwife helped deliver the placenta, fixed me a plate and the four of us curled up in bed and I nursed Willow to sleep. It was my dream birth!
