Where to buy a black dress?

I'm not sure if this fits into this subforum or not, but it has to do with my desire to simplify my closet. I need to buy a black dress (think funerals, nice dinners, etc.) I want it to be general and high-quality, rather than having a bunch of kind-of right things in my closet. Anybody know where I could buy one? I am willing to spend $100-$150 (I recently came into some birthday money), and I would love to buy one not made in a sweatshop. And to hopefully buy one soon - I have to attend a funeral tomorrow and discovered this morning that moths ate my good gray dress (our closet really wasn't too bad, but the moth thing is definitely speeding my cleaning out). I know that's a tall order, thanks in advance for your help.

A couple of places pop into mind, but I don't know about their labor practices...Hanna Andersson, Coldwater Creek and J.Jill.

I just got the new Hanna catalog & I was thinking of doing some shopping there when I back to work in a few months...lots of nice clothes, with great lines & simple styling. I haven't been at JJill & Coldwater Creek in awhile (I'm not much of a shopper) but have always had good, quality clothes from them inthe past.

I know it's really hit-or-miss, but I was looking for the same thing and happened to stop at my Goodwill. Ours sorts everything by color, so it made it really easy to find what I was looking for. There were some great brands in there! And you can't beat 5.99 or whatever it was..
It might be worth looking into.. people always donate things when they're too small or too big, so they end up with some really nice things (sometimes you just have to dig through the crap first )

Hanna Andersson is great-I have a few of their Stockholm Collection things and they are high quality and comfy. Also, I was thinking Chicos Travelers. It's spendy but last forever and is super easy to wash and take care of but looks very nice and can be dressed up or down.
