Question about latching ????

Ok, we are on day 4 of fairly successful breastfeeding...but i noticed on my left breast when he pulls away the "top" of my nipple (when he is sucking...this it the part of my nipple closest to his nose) is white and almost swollen looking...i have also started to develop a smal scab : And i cant find any info on this particular matter on kellymom.com or lll.org

any help? or suggestions?

It sounds like he might not be latching on deeply enough and is compressing the nipple at the roof of his mouth. Try for a wider gape and a deeper latch if you can. Play around with positioning too, many babies prefer one side to the other due to the position they were in in the womb.

Thanks I think i got it figured out.....he was taking in too much of the top of my nipple (since they are so darn huge : ) It seems everyday he is getting a better gape and latch
