just to see how terrible it is.........i figure if I'm going to be against it, i should know exactly what hes saying.

I also got brazletons discipline book.........anyone have any opinions on him? First time I've come across him in the discipline section.

I've read Brazleton's "The Irriducible Needs of Children", which I really liked (from what I remember). He advocates, based on research, things like:
-not leaving your child overnight for the first year of life
-for parents who are separated/divorced, allowing only day visitation for dads in the first year so as not to mess with the bonding between mother and baby.
-parents/family members caring for young children (0-3) when at all possible, otherwise child care with no more than 2 infants per caregiver, etc.

I don't recall any discipline-specific topics in that book - I should reread it...

What about bonding between dad and baby?

I think he was citing research that stated that babies are able to bond with one primary caregiver and a few secondary caregivers. To have a baby sleep in a different place half the time without the comfort of its primary caregiver was not in the child's best interest. Also, this would interfere with breastfeeding.

He was not advocating that the father not be involved, just that he only have the baby during the day for the first year.
