First Outfit?

No baby here yet, I am still 2 weeks away from my due date (2 weeks exactly, it would have been fun to be due on the full moon, but it is also pretty fun to be due on the new moon--I just have to see if that's when s/he actually decides to come!)

I am in full-on, hardcore nesting mode though--bordering on neurotic!! I never thought I would enjoy organizing and categorizing and folding things, but it is so fun and exciting and satisfying right now !!!

I am planning to give birth at the local women's hospital, so packing a bag with my arnica and massage oil and pillowcases, massage balls, etc etc, and (the most fun part) baby clothes! So I have this totally frivolous question (because I am trying to pick an outfit--well, a few outfits to take anyway, I have not bought anything but am sorting through piles of hand-me-downs from my very generous sister ): what is a baby supposed to wear when it goes out in the car for a ride right after it is born? Does s/he have to wear pants? a sweater? socks or booties? I know about the hat...but how warm do you have to make them in the middle of summer?

I feel confident that I can pick something cute, but a little more nervous about keeping my little fashionista alive and healthy! Not too hot, not too cold... any words of advice for me??

Newborns tend to be cold so I would definately put on socks and a hat. It doesn't have to be a thick hat - they'll probably give you a little hat when the baby is born but alot of newborn outfits come with little knit hats that will be fine. I would do either a footed outfit or long pants with booties/socks. If the baby is a girl and you want to put a dress on her, I'd use a onesie under it and make sure you have a couple light receiving blankets to cover the baby's legs. I would still do one blanket even with a fully covering outfit to keep any breeze off and to keep the baby warm in the air conditioned vehicle on the way home. Godd Luck!!

I bought our baby boy's outfit over a month ago. I got him a little one piece cotton romper with a beach theme. I got a matching hat, socks and a receiving blanket. I did get a onesie for under, but I doubt I'll use it. It's been really hot. It's bad to get them over heated too.

it's in the mid 90s here and we use AC but not full blast. more to just take the initial heat out of the car then we back it way off once the car is comfortable. i plan on putting baby in a onesie (a beautiful organic cotton, kimono syle in sage green... my splurge for this newest addition!), socks and a hat with a receiving blanket. figure i can always put another blanket over baby but undressing is too difficult. think i read somewhere a rule of thumb is one layer more than you require.

wish i had some of your energy in nesting! i've been needing to reorganize my pot lid cupboard for weeks...they fall out everytime i open it, and i just keep shoving it all back in, holding it there with my foot, and slamming the door!!

maybe later today i will tackle it...
