Best book for biting 11 month old?

Hi, I'm going to get a gift for a friend whose 11 month old is biting (not during BF). She's totally stumped, and I thought my simple description of calmly saying 'no biting' and distracting the baby was just not enough for her.

So can anyone recommend a book that will outline good strategies for her to dissuade undesirable behaviour from this age upwards?

Here is a good article from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)

http://www.naeyc.org/resources/eyly/1996/08.htm

You might also want to look at the Gentle Discipline book list and see if something there is appropriate.

At this age, I would say "No! Be gentle" and then back away so it can't happen again.

The Aware Baby by Aleta Solter. I found it when dd was around that age and it was a lifesaver for us.

Teeth Are Not for Biting I liked, but it miht be too much for a young baby. It comes in board book form, and I believe the way it goes is that it gives alternatives in a positive (ie this is what you *can* do with teeth). They also have a similar one for hitting.

Thanks! I've just emailed her the article, I'm looking at the aware baby book on Amazon.com

Thanks Pam - yes, I think she's too young for the book

Lynn, I'm going through the book list for myself, but wanted recommendations for just this age, since I can't browse in the bookshop anymore!

Oh I think I just realized the gift was for the mom not the baby!
