Reviving Cattails

O.k. you green thumbs out there. We moved into a new home in Dec. and have a wonderful pond with cattails. But, some of my son's friends played with them and they are completely gone now.

My question is: do the stalks grow back? how long does it take? if they don't, what can I do?

I LOVED them and want them to return. I am NOT a green thumb and have no clue what to do.

HELP~

Mine are in pots in our pond. They grow from a rhizome kind of like a canna or water lily or something. They seem to be really hardy & multiply like crazy. It dies back over winter & you can whack off the brown, dead leaves. Then in the spring new greenery grows back. Ours are just now starting to wake up. Unless they completely pulled the rhizome out of the ground (which is hard to do), they ought to start to grow back pretty soon.

Ohhhhhh Joy!

yes, our are in containers in the pond and they didn't pull out anything, just the old stalks and cattails. I am so glad to hear that they won't die!

Thank You~
