My uncle breeds wolf hybrids (not wolves to dogs, but hybrids to hybrids) in Texas and one of his packs attacked a hybrid from another pack because she jumped into their enclosure. My uncle said she can't have puppies anymore, but she loves them, and there were puppies in this other enclosure. A neighbor, who is crazy and has been in a feud with my uncle for the past 3 years, taped the fight and took it to the sherriff. The police in their county know this lady well as she calls for all sorts of complaints. There are dozens of police reports showing that everything she's said about my uncle and his animals has been unfounded. Only once was he ticketed and that's because one of his animals was behind on its vaccinations.
The sherriff came out and took another look around the property and questioned my uncle again and again found nothing. So this woman sent the video to PETA and they edited it and put it on their website. Now he's getting angry emails and PETA has vowed to shut him down. There was a protest in Dallas.
If you watch the video (it's at www.peta.com or .org under "Action Alerts" or something like that at the right side of the page) you'll see that it is very disturbing. I can see why people freaked out about it. Especially because of how it's edited. At the end of the video there is a dead and torn up dog shown. That's not one of my uncle's animals. It's a dog that belonged to my grandparents' neighbors. She's made a statement saying that it's her dog. If you notice on the video, the dead dog isn't separated from the person taping by a fence or fences like on the rest of the video. That's because she went across the street, on someone else's property (not my uncle's), and filmed a dead dog to make it look like it was a result of the dog fight. And PETA edited it that way. No one came out to fact check this story before posting the video. The dog who was attacked is alive and well, by the way. She's 11 years old. I don't know who the dog was who got caught up in the fence. That was really disturbing too, I'll admit. But why didn't this lady call my family and tell them this was happening so they could help this animal??? It was more important to her to film it to further the feud, that's why.
I used to belong to PETA (until I learned they want there to eventually be no more pets-that all animals should be "free.") I assumed they fact checked and didn't just take someone's word for it when a complaint is made. Whatever you think about breeding animals or breeding wolf hybrids, this is about a feud between two people and a pack fight.
I don't really know what to think. My grandparents, who also live in the neighborhood, have been harassed by this woman for the past few years. They are in their 80s. I went over and talked to this lady a few months ago and asked her to at least leave my grandparents alone, but she said she's sorry but she'll do whatever it takes to "save the animals." It just so happens that my son and I are going to visit my grandparents this weekend. I have no idea what it's going to be like.
The local news did a story telling my uncle's side of the story yesterday. Here's a link to that:

: The lower percentage hybrids are "retired" and have their own little pack.
I'm laughing, but I'm serious too!
