Oh man, I can't believe this hasn't gottne any replies.
I was gonna post this myself. After roasting a turkey, uncovered, my oven is a nasty mess. I even resorted to Comet to clean it- and it didn't work!
Are there no healthy alternatives for oven cleaner? Do I really have to brave those nasty fumes?!?!
Help

Oxiclean is the only thing that even budged it. And that was with HOURS of elbow grease! I'm going to try www.gaiam.com . They usually have great cleaning products for those tough jobs.
Wait a minute, i just realized that my new oven is self cleaning. Yippeee! I've never had this before! Hopefully it works!

I have had success using those Microfiber cleaning cloths. I had been scrubbing without much result before that. I use Quick n' Brite, then heat up the oven to soften it up. I was absolutely stunned when I saw how easy these cloths made it.

Okay, so I used to watch Martha in the mornings during the week when ds was little and nursing like a kitten. And, if you can believe it, it was on one of her shows that she disclosed using a baking soda paste on her oven! Just make a thick paste, let it set overnight, and elbow to it! Of course I tried it. And boy, it did work. And my oven was not cleaned for over a year! (Yuck, sorry). We are veggie, so there was not a big grease issue, but we sure had a lot of dh's pizza cheese spills stuck to the bottom. Give it a try. Good luck.

I have had decent results from a product called "At Ease Paste" from Shaklee. It is made from ground cherry pits and is environmentally safe and even smells good :P
Regarding the selfcleaning ovens...does the selfcleaning process emit toxic chemical fumes or is the smell just from the stuff being cleaned (old food etc)? I always felt like I was poisoning my home the time or two I tried it. Anyone know more about this?

I have a self cleaning oven now, but I used to use the baking soda paste with great success. It's just baking soda and water mixed to a pasty consistency, just enough to move it around with your fingers on the oven. It will dry up as it sets overnight. You can get big boxes of baking soda at Sam's or in a bulk section of a regular grocery store. It does work great!! I've also used it on broiler pans with impossibly caked and burnt gook on them.
You do have to leave it on overnight or all day, much longer than the toxic oven cleaning foams.

Quick n' Brite is a non-toxic concentrated cleaner. I have been using it for about 7 years. Fantastic stuff, no funky smell.
