Fundal measurment

Today is the first time I asked what my measurments were b/c my MW always just said "you're measuring good".
I am 40 wks ...
today I measured 35 wks , measured 37 wks last week ... meaning the baby has dropped. Im just concerned that I was measuring small though.
What do you think?

I wasnt sure of the importance of measuring on schedule??

My midwife told me that at this point it basically means nothing. I asked her too because I was curious. I was measuring 34 weeks at 38. That's the same as I was with my last DD and she was a few ounces shy of 9 pounds. It not only has to do with baby but also with your body and how you're carrying. I wouldn't get caught up in it if I were you.

Not a big deal, I think. I've measured 2cm smaller all pregnancy, although it got to be as much as 5cm smaller in the past few weeks, even though we can both clearly tell the baby is bigger. I wouldn't worry.

I'd be a little more concerned about measuring 5cm bigger! My sister did, although it was still no problem for her - she easily birthed her baby at home. (ok, not easily, but size was not an issue)

I agree that a lot of the accuracy of the measurements have to do with how the baby is laying at that particular time & can be off by a few cm. I think the biggest reason for measuring every time is just to make sure that baby is growing at a steady rate, if there was a huge jump like you were measuring as growing a cm a week & then you suddenly grew 5 cm in a week then they might be worried about excess fluid or a large baby or if you measure 20 cm at 20 weeks & then by 24 & 28 weeks you were still 20 cm then that could be a clue that baby is not growing properly. I wouldn't worry about measuring small if you were 37 cm at 40 weeks. It is normal to be within a few cm of how many weeks you are. Like you said it sounds like the baby has dropped which would account for the 35 cm measurement. Sounds like you are doing just fine!

I don't think its a big deal. My MW told me the same thing on Monday. The baby has dropped, and she didn't say anything more than that. Don't worry mama!

I have been measuring small as well. With my first pregnancy, at week 39 I was measuring smaller than at week 38 and was sent for an ultrasound. The ultrasound technician said the baby was measuring a gestational age of only 36 weeks. 2 days later I gave birth to my son - 7 lbs 1 oz. Everyone was surprised at his size because they thought he was so much smaller. My doctor now says the best way to tell if baby is happy is by paying attention to his/her movements, that the numbers (measurements, heart rates) are inaccurate ways to predict baby's health.
