Felt like lactivism

I was at the county office yesterday, getting a birth certificate for my UC baby, and the records office is just a window in the lobby of this large, beautiful building. While we were waiting, baby was hungry, so I sat on this beautiful bench facing the front doors of the county building and courthouse and breastfed.

No one even batted an eye... but that's california for you. But it felt a little like lactivism. I have been unable to be a lactivist... because there are no Victoria Secret stores within 3 hours... and most of the other "nurse-in" sites are really far.

But I am always with you in spirit!

Hi MamaFranklin -

I just had to reply after I saw where you live. I grew up in Sierra County (total county population, 3,000), and whenever I visited my cousins in Susanville, I felt like it was the "big city." But then I went to Berkeley for college and have been in the Bay Area ever since.

I don't know where you're living in Lassen County, but that area of the state is really a trip, isn't it? From what I've seen, lactivism (even of the most basic nurse-in-public kind) is sorely needed. IME, there are lots of very young mothers, unwed parents, and families and children living in very poor conditions. Exposure to breastfeeding as a normal and natural thing won't solve these problems, but it certainly can't hurt!

Breastfeeding in public is definitely lactivism!

I have never thought of bf'ing in ublic as lactivism (to me it is an everyday thing) until i fund this board.
I found myself nursing at a baseball game with a bazillion people all around and though "a-ha! so THIS is lactivism"
