While I don't want those who couldn't breast-feed to feel guilty, THESE are the people who should (in the quote). I hope it does strike a nerve with her, and she starts thinking about her choices.

Despite their differences, there is one thing all women agree on: that the government's ad campaign put the proverbial cart before the horse. A lot of laws and attitudes still need to change if breast-feeding is to make significant headway in the United States.
Yes, but I kinda liked the ad-campaign. In a way, you have to have an in-your-face attitude before people start to think otherwise. Sometimes, the only way to get someone's attention is with an attitude like that. It's like those new ads where people are driving along, just talking the WHAM!, they get hit. Kinda gets your attention, huh?

ha - I wouldn't count on it being positive

Sort of OT -
There was an ad here in AZ a few years back about watching your kids around water - even thining about it gives me chills now.
They were radio ads - where you start out by hearing a little splash - then a small childs voice, very panicked, saying "Mommy?! Mommy Where are you?! I can't breathe! I'm scared! Help me mommy - please help me....."

Holy crap those ads scared the living daylights out of me -

VERY in your face - but totally made the point clear....

i'm trying to be hopeful about it. i have it set to record on my DVR so i definitely won't miss it. i'm anxious to see what they have to say. i read the article on abcnews and i'm still not sure what their stand is. i'm ready, however, for them to be sickeningly fair in weighing BF and FF as being equal to one another and a "whatever you choose for your baby you're doing your best don't sweat it or feel quilty" attitude about the whole thing. ugh. i guess we'll see...

I, too, have set the DVR to record. : MAYBE it won't make me want to scream/throw things at the television.

I don't have TV but this makes me very curious.

One of the worst things you can do is to force or coerce or cause a woman to breast-feed when she really doesn't want to because that's a recipe for disaster.
Good god, what a disaster! A breastfed baby!

What makes me gnash my teeth in fustration is all of these people whinging about not being supported to pump at work, when they didn't even give their baby a day's worth of colostrum. Sorry, sweetie, but you weren't at work when your baby was born and you put that bottle of formula in their mouth.

I have this set on my Tivo...

OMG! That literally makes me want to vomit. That is so sad. They certainly would get their point across.

Every one of Spitzer's quotes comes across as being a very angry woman who is rather selfish, very defensive about her choice.

I don't have T.V. and DS is sick, so I can't go anywhere...do you think it'll be up on the 20/20 webcasts?

I’m a woman and I don’t agree. If people don’t know that BF makes a substantial difference, why on earth would they go through the rigmarole of giving women a place to pump at work, longer maternity leave or any other costly accomodations. Asking to put the accomodations in place, before changing public attitudes, is a cart before the horse scenario, wouldn’t you say?

What I do think everyone agrees is that there isn't enough informtion and support out there, especially at the hospitals. All the negative attitudes toward La Leche League certainly don't help.

What is there to debate exactly? Even ff moms seem to be aware that breastmilk is best.

i can see the comercial was going for shock value but honestly i think it was the dumbest move to make as far as PR for breastfeeding advocacy, Americans don't know about breastfeeding, most of us on these AP type boards didn't either at some point, so we who support bf can overlook in-your-face stuff, but the average woman will only be offended, its upseting that when they finally say something about bfing that they ended up fulfilling the stereotypical nose-in-the-air image of a lactivist, which us gentle mothers who are simply informed and want to help try everyday to change. I doubt it will be positive, there is an article on the 20/20 website and its not one of those give me a break exploring why we know so much about bf but no one does it, it is talking about how agressive bf advocacy is.
ETA: the comercial makes you have to say, if you don't like my rude attitude toward you for being sooo stupid, then you are an evil mother who would ride a bull while you are pregnant, and if you don't like this comercial, that just proves how dumb you are. i can see in situations where you might let someone know you are bfing isn't reason for the ff mother to have guilt, but come on! this is like slapping someone in the face and saying why should you feel bad that i hit you? if your face wasn't where my fist was swinging (if you already were bfing) you wounldn't have gotten hit. just makes our side look stupid.
